Tickets for Tinting

Just remember, if you leave the tint on and pay the ticket, you can still get another ticket next time you are on the road. Paying the ticket does not give you the right to run illegal tint.

Your only choice is to take it off and not have to pay. I think it's pretty damn cool of them to give you that option.

actually... cosidering you are breaking the law, YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING WRONG!

I have no tolerance for you whiners who break the law and complain when you get caught. Either break the law or don't. Suck it up. Deal with it. Shut up.

I have been warned twice for my front two windows, which are 15%. I think it is silly for cops to enforce this law. I know laws are laws, but no matter, tint isn't that big of a deal.

when drug deals go down, or a thug is pointing a gun at you w/o realizing it, it might be a big deal

Also i believe the lowest legal % ive heard of in a state is 30%..but thats only for the fronts, you can get the rears down to 5%..or you could get friendly with your eye doctor and have him write you a note to get every window tinted if you want...ive seen it

Well, I got it done the other day. I put 20% on the front. The max legal in NY is 70% which is close to what they are stock. There are tons of vehicles in my area with tints even darker so I dont think I will have anything to worry about. If I get pulled over, my windows are coming down and the interior lights are coming on, thats for sure.

the reason for the law is the safety of the cop, someone could have a gun pointed at you and you wouldent even know it

Legal max tint in Ohio is 50%. :( That's not even worth wasting the $$$$ for that light of tint. :down

mine are all tinted to match the back and also they are all mirror

Last week I got a ticket for having my 2 front side windows tinted. I can either pay the ticket or take the tints off and have the ticket go away. I really like the tints but I can't really afford to pay the ticket right now...its $400....what do you guys think I should do. What would you do if you were in my shoes. Its not that I don't have $400 but I am going to Law School in a month and need to start saving my money! (Damn X's...take up all our money! lol)

yup... i just got pulled over by a real D**K cop and its a good thing both my windows were rolled all the way down. I have 20% tint on my front windows.

Nope. No glasses

OK her you go. This will end all question of what is legal and what isn't. Here is a table that shows what is legal state by state. I want no more arguing about what % is OK.

Dead Link Removed

Downway69, if you are going to go to law school in a month, I suggest you follow the law (the whole practice what you preach thing). Anyway, just remove it and if allowed, retint in the legal percent. Then print out this table, keep it in your car, and show the cop if you get pulled over again.

The fine here in Hawaii is $70.00 per window. Anytime I see cops around (especially in Waikiki) I roll down the front windows. Another problem with tinting the front windows, (that nobody has brought up), is passing the vehicle inspection. Here, the norm is to take your car/truck back to the tinting place, get the tint removed, get your inspection and then have it put back on. This cost approx $70 to get done. Last but not least, it is possible to get a bogus inspection (which I will not do)....cost: $50. When my inspection is due, I will probably just have the tint removed and then put back on.

No tint on the front side windows is allowed at all here in california.
I have mine tinted to match the factory tint and no problems so far.
Ive been at RED lights next to a cop. and they have looked over right at the tinted windows.. I glance at them.. kinda give a nod and go my own way and nothing has ever come of that.

Ive also asked a highway patrol who came into buy some stuff where i worked.. I asked him about the window tinting thing. He told me for the most part he doesnt check car as he drives by them for tinting, and if he sees it he doesnt pull the person over. The only time he says he will write a tint ticket up is if he has pulled you over for something else and your being an A$$hole about it. He says most of the CHP he knows are pretty much the same. ITS NOT WORTH THE TIME TO WRITE UP THE PAPERWORK FOR SUCH A MINOR INFRACTION

Check the link I posted. In some states, front tint is allowed. In New Mexico, you can legally go up to (or down to actually) a 20% tint. Some states allow no tint, but most allow some sort.

i was reffering to where im at.. IN CALI. ** i edited to be more specific
In oregon.. where i live for school- i can have 35% in the front side windows.

tell me why this matters i do and my moms b/f got like 4 tickets for his tint in michigan around my house and he finally took it off. but im getting 15% front and 5% limo all the rest and i need to find an excuse, the only one im thinking is im going to register my car as a show car maybe .

Having glasses is a medical reason for dark tint. Un;ess you wear glasses ALL the time and suffer from a medical condition, you won't get an exemption for this. Don't bother.

You can register your car as a show car? What are the requirements for that?
