I'll answer this-

Joe purchase an external egr header ( like yours)

since his truck is an internal EGR system, there is no egr tube off the header.

So, his needed to be capped off.

For your upgrade you can ignore this part.

If you have external egr than you won't cap anything off. He has an internal egr, and the manifold he bought has an external egr bung that he needed to cap off.

Wow! OK, I don't know what did it, but it's like a new truck. I don't care about dynos and measurements, and all that jaz. I care that I've got the pickup I want, and the towing performance. It's like a new truck! I didn't expect anything significant out of anything I did. Was it the cracked exhaust, spacer, replaced coil packs, EVR? Whatever it was, it's nice to have my truck back again. Still some ticking going on. Might just need to tighten up the exhaust flange.

This is good news--

Yeah-the flange is a bit of a bugger-
Try some mega copper gasket sealer in there.

I would bet the performance gain is indeed from the spacer. A cleaned intake and throttle body probably helps also.

Good Job Joe.

good work! and good to know that there was a noticeable difference with just the spacer. as stated before should help other members looking at doing this without TMs. looking forward to workin on mine, probably going to have to ask for a couple pointers haha.

If I wasn't losing so much oil, I'd probably have TMHs already. :( The responsiveness makes me feel better about the future of this thing. I'll crank on those exhaust flange bolts one night to make sure they are tight. I do have another small exhaust leak behind the cats from not replacing a gasket a few years back when I dropped it to replace the transfer case. There's also the driver's side exhaust manifold, which could also be leaking. Might be time for some seafoam smoke, so I can look for all of the leaks.
