My 02 sport is quiet. No noises, no rattle, 94K miles. I've been reading about these timing chain tensioners. Is it worth it to replace them now? My fear is if I attempt to it could actually cause a problem. I don't think they were replaced before I got it. They look original on inspection.

I honestly wouldn't touch it unless it made a noise. Others may say different. Keep clean oil with a Motorcraft filter in it and keep it movin.

That's the thing, it's a 2nd car that only gets driven 1 maybe 2 times a week. I put 2K miles in a year on the 1st gen it replaced.

I’d roll with it. They usually give ample warning. You might get lucky with that kind of mileage per year and never have to touch them.
