I just got an Explorer, it has the factory 1-1/2" hitch. I want to be able to tow my motorcycle with it. The tow rig is for a 2" receiver. The front tire goes into the rig, which is then raised and locked into position for towing, the rear tire stays on the ground. The bike weighs 650#. Can I just use an adapter or should I install a new receiver?

You'll need to install a new receiver. No way 1-1/2" can handle 650lbs when even a 2" is only rated 500lbs.

Here is the one I got, $184.79 at RockAuto:

What he said. I ordered a class III hitch from 4wheelonline, and it can handle the weight of my carrier and Suzuki bike.
