I just got a 91 Explorer with a 4.0 with the auto tranny w/OD. My question is, the explorer has 150,000 miles on it and I don't have any maintenance records on it so Should I do a tranny flush or just replace the filter and the lost fluid? The tranny seams to shift ok. I've been reading all the posts i can find on this and now I not sure what to do because of the high miles and no maint. records.... Thanks for any and all info... Larry

I'd just do a pan drop. Be sure you replace the filter with a Microfelt element and not a metal screen. The problem is not dirty fluid but the sediment that will come out of the clutches and TC a month later. The felt element will trap that dirt that will clog the valve screens. Four pan drops at 2 month intervals will get the transmission cleaner than a 15 quart flush.

Thanks for the info Opera House,
I was hoping you would reply to my message. That's what I'll do, the 4 pan drops at 2 month intervals. Where can I get the filter with the Microfelt element and not the metal screen? What brand fluid should I put back in when I do the filter change? Thanks for any and all info...Larry
