i was wondering if anyone had any input on this. i am going to drop the pan to change the filter on my trans. i have searched around on here about trans temp gauges and people seem to be saying the most accurate place to get a reading is in the pan so i was thinking of putting a sensor on the pan while i have it off.

it seems like a simple thing to me, but if anyone has suggestions im open to opinions. i was planning on looking for some type of kit deal with the sensor and a gauge so i know for sure they work properly together. and i have read that i need the gauge to show from 100 deg up to 200 or so, i kinda figure most gauges would be in that range tho so i cant imagine that will be an issue.

am i missing anything?

Currently I have the B&M transmission remote filter on mine with the temp switch. The reading on my scan gauge is the same as on the trans temp gauge. People say you get a more accurate reading from the pan but I contest that theory. I have mine hooked to the line coming out of the trans. Here is a link to some good transmission remote filters.

I was going to suggest just forget the gauge and get the scan gauge.

It is several gauges in one small unit. mount it on the console lip under the heater controls, plug it in and you are done.

what is a scan gauge?

Actually, I have the Aeroforce Interceptor gauge. But I do like the scan gauge, both are very accurate.

How does the Scanguage get the tranmission temp? What about engine oil temp?

Ok got the Scanguage early from Amazon last night and set it up in my 2000 EB in probable 20 mins easiest Gauge add ever. It plugs right into the OBDII computer plug below the steering column then i ran the Cat5 type wire under the dashboard and behind the center computer console and velcro'd it to right about the stock Ford display computer.

Then last night i programmed in the engine size and fuel type and tank size. The thing right out of the box has all kinds of awesome data, its able to clear and display any stored engine codes, Outside Temp, RPM, Speed, current real time MPG, Avg MPG, Trip computers.

Then it has a xgauge feature where you can program up to 24 other types of guages from teh list on their web site here.

So this morning i programed in my Tran temp and its awesome and i though i was going to have to drop my pan and install a prob and wire and everything low and behold the data is already there in the OBDII computer it just needed a way to display it.

So i can display four gauges at any one time so right now i have the following MPG, avg MPG, Trans temp, Water temp.

So far i really like this setup it looks very nice and factory also.

Follow up on the scanguage...

I love the features but was having a problem where the guage would shutoff and stop displaying data except for voltage for no apparent reason. I contacted ScanGuage yesterday and their awesome customer support has agreed to ship me a replacement unit in the mail.

Great customer support so far. imho
