I recently replaced the battery in my 98 Explorer XLT and cannot get it started now. A little background . The factory anti theft system immediately started going off as soon as I touched both battery cables. To solve that problem I pulled the fuse for the RAP module. That worked in order to get the battery installed but when I put the fuse back in I was not able to get the truck to start. It cranks but thats all. I have tried everything I could find on the web but nothing. I really dont want to have to take it to a dealer if at all possible. Any help?

The trick w/ my 96 Explorer

I recently had this same issue and couldn't for the life me remember what the trick was. After numerous attempts, and lots of online research it finally came to me that in order to start my vehicle when the battery replacement triggers the anti theft (which I can't get to reset now- there's a separate trick to that which I have done in the past, but I can't remember) I have to hold the UNLOCK down while turning it over - don't know if that will work for yours, but worth a try.
