So I did a tt a few years ago and I don't remember how much lift I got. My truck is a v8 awd so it's pretty heavy in the font. My stock keys are twisted as far as they can go and the key is against the frame so it won't go up anymore. I believe I can get some more lift in the front but I'll need those yellow keys to do that. Anyone else run into this before?

If the keys are bottomed out your torsion bars are probably weak. Here's a good thread. GL

Upgrade Torsion Bars?
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71967

Click vehicle, enter VIN, and click minor features.
Scroll to bottom for stock leaf and torsion bar codes with part numbers.

I take it "super soft" will bottom out like mine ? :D

I didn't actually see spring rates or codes when I entered my VIN. Am I missing something?

(clicks first link now) ;)

My x being awd and a v8 has 1 bars already. So they must be sagged. I think I'll just try a set of those yellow keys because they're infinitely adjustable so I should get the lift I want with those.

I find this torsion key approach very interesting. I did go to https://www.suspensionmaxx.com, but only found a kit for the Ranger 4x4 and Explorer Sport Trac, not the Explorer itself. I have a '97 XLT 4x4 myself.

Here's the link and product description:

URL ==> https://www.suspensionmaxx.com/store/product/SMX-MCR

Description:
SMX-MCR

MAXXCam RS 1"-2" Leveling Kit for 1997-2012 Ford Ranger 4x4 trucks and 2001-2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac 4x4, and mid-size SUV’s with torsion bars

I guess the door is open somewhat since it does say "and mid-size SUV’s with torsion bars", which certainly includes the Explorer. Has anyone used the above product on their Explorer? I'd call the company and ask, but it's after hours on Friday. I know the Ranger and Explorer share many parts, but don't know if the torsion bar setup is identical in both trucks.

Cheers,

The ranger sport track and explorer are all the same so they use the same keys from suspensionmaxx. I haven't installed mine yet but i'll let ya know how it turns out.

Yes, definitely please do that. Thanks for the response and Merry Christmas.
