Uk Explorer Recall

After the fourth collection/attempt Polar ford in Castleford (near to my work ) finally done the work.

Or they say they have, i doubt it as they did not stamp the recall letter from ford and insisted it was not reqiured.

To be honest the whole process has be fuming and ready to write to ford about the uselessness or POLAR FORD CASTLEFORD. Complete incompetants

Well I have a different experience. Not only was the work done promptly but while I waited and it only took them 20 mins. They were happy to stamp the sheet. After all all it is only one switch on the brake master cylinder and a short piece of wiring loom from the switch to the main bundle.

Sadly after last week we have the same experience as spacemonkeypg!! The Explorer was booked into Essex Ford - again - to be collected from work and returned after work was completed. Booking stated the cruise control relay and the non-existant handbrake were to be sorted out. A large poster was placed over the IP when I left it stating there was no handbrake and to ensure "P" was selected at all times when not moving.
Come 5pm I get a phone call from security, they've got my keys as Essex Ford apparently couldn't get in touch. Checking the envelope containing the keys revealed they been dialling a different number to the one I gave them. Went out to the Explorer, put it in "N" and pushed with the handbrake on - off it merrily rolled... Obviously the handbrake not been touched. No paperwork came back with the vehicle and we never got the physical recall notice so unless there is any way of visually identifying the work has been done we have no idea. :(

We could do with a local specialist starting up for the Explorer - he'd probably be swamped with work!!!

I've not had a recall - does this mean I'm Ok?

Bruce - it either means you're OK or Ford don't know you have the vehicle. IIRC it doesn't affect 01 vehicles but the easiest way to check is to ring up Ford and give them your VIN.
I had my 99 XLT done the other week - it took them about 3 weeks to get the parts and they kept the car almost a DAY to do they work (i guess they fitted it in around other jobs!).

The recall is probably tied to the recent later model recall here in the USA. The first recall was a couple of years ago. The latest version covered more, the later models, still the same issue.

There is constant power at the master cylinder sensor switch. If anything there allows the electricity to short threw, smoke, severed wire, or fire result.

The fix involves replacing the sensor, plus adding some kind of protection to the wire, either a fuse or fusible link.

If you are really worried, or the technicians there are unavailable or incompetent, add the wiring protection yourself. I have not touched mine yet, maybe some day. Good luck,

I'm new to this forum. but on ready this thread I'm suprised at all the trouble people have had.
I got the recall booked in my car in St Albans same day for them to check it out. they then ordered the parts took two weeks to come in then they fitted while I sat there about 20 mins.
Excellent job.
