Hi All
Ok, Here is one for you. I have a 95 Ford Explorer XLT with about 175K miles on it. I am in the process of rebuilding the 4R55E transmission . I presume that this is the first time the transmission was rebuilt "I bought the vehicle used in 97 with only 25,000 mile on it". To save me some time in overhauling the valve body, I bought a rebuilt one, When I went to torque the bolts down they broke. l Started torking them at 5 Lbs and gradually moved up in 5 lb increments. Well, they started breaking about 20 Ft LBS, Ya, 20. These are/were the origional bolts that came out of the valve body, and No, I diden't mix them up, I made a template when i took them out and marked them according to the diagram in the ATSG book.
with a caliper I check the depth of the holes to see if they were bottoming out but everythig seams fine.
Any Clues as to why they are breaking? Im stumped

You better check the torque rating again, it is in inch pounds, looks like you are way over.

Yeah that is about 500% too tight. You probably damaged the gasket also--if not the separator plate and valve body. You may have stressed cracked it so check it very well.
