- 2000 Explorer XLT 4WD
So I have a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4 4.0 OHV. I've noticed that in cold weather like we are having her in Iowa, My explorer with start to make a kind of a "howling" sound in the right hand part of the engine compartment. and when it does this, it will speed the engine up to about 2100-2300 rpms. It'll make this sound for a few minutes and then stop, rpms with drop to almost nothing and start to stall out. I can't figure out what is causing it. It happened 3 times on the way home tonight from work(less than 20 miles). It only stalls out at an idle. Going down the road, It'll make the sound then just stop. Any help would be great!!!!!!!!!!!!
