Here's the situation. A couple of months ago, the transmission in the Ranger died and a local shop rebuilt it. It a 92 3.0 liter model. The transmission seems to run fine through the first 4 gears but starts a vibration in 5th gear. If you take it up to 65 in 4th and then shift into 5th and remain at 65, the vibration starts. Since the driveshaft is going the same revolutions at 65 no matter what gear you're in, I don't think it's the driveshaft. Does 5th gear rotate on a shaft of it's own that would allow it to do this? I'm fairly sure there are other problems within the transmission since there's a trail of ATF the whole length of the undercarriage.

Since there's a ATF trail I would take it back, but also when you increase speed to 70, 75 from 65 in 5th does the vibration go away? get worse?
