Visual Explaination of the "Click of Death"

So I bought this Explorer off of eBay and if any one you have seen my other posts its been a nightmare. Anyway come to find out my track has "The Click of Death". Did have any heat at all. I went and bought the Dorman Blend Gate repair (Part # 902202), tore the blower motor and everything out of the engine bay and then come to find out the blend door actuator was my problem.

I tried and tried and tried to take it out and just check it that way. Well low and behold I had to pull the whole damn dash out to pull the one screw all the way in the back of the actuator unit out. Pretty livid about that beside the fact that I COMPLETELY mantled the center console trying to get it out and then found out that I took apart WAY to much of it.

Anyway, I got the actuator off and out and popped it apart and here is what I found.

Take a close look at the littlest gear to the right.

The gears were totally striped off in just one spot. This was the problem obviously.I have a new actuator coming and will be here Friday due to Thanksgiving. (Dorman Blend Door Actuator Part #604202) I think also part of it was the thermostat going out because I wasn't getting hot enough water into the heating system. Hopefully this will be all back together Friday morning.

Here's what I ended up with. I apologize for the cell pic.

Good to know!

I almost suggest replacing the heater core while you are in there.

I'm not messing around with the heater core. I have no money left. I purchased the car for $2,000. I had to replace the transmission, dropped $200 more into other parts, fluids, etc. The rocker panels still have to be fixed because they were rusted out. And I still have to get up on the roof and knock off the bubbling paint and rust off and stop all of it. Something else goes wrong with this thing it is getting sold.
