What are necessary mods to a 5.0L Mountaineer?

'99 Merc Mountaineer Spruce Green: I'm already planning on putting on some 17" SVT Cobra rims on, first. Second I want to put on an exhaust, and I'm leaning towards some Flowmaster 40s, or a custom side exhaust. What else should be done to it?

I was highly considering a Cold Air Intake, but not neccessarily considering the headers... how much would it increase my power and how much would it cost?

doing the headers should do add 30hp and new exhaust should maybe add 5-10hp. not sure how much u can get them for but if you can install them yourself you will save money, i would guess $300ish for headers, but i dont know

those mods took me from a stock quarter mile time of approx 17.4 down to a 16.03
