Year, Model & Trim Level
1997 XLT
Hi All,

Newbie here. I just got a 1997 Explorer. It's a 2WD XLT model.
How can I tell if it's got the Limited package? What does it consist of?
Thanks all in advance.:)

Hello and thanks for the information!

Correction.. On the 1995-1997, they went XL, XLT, Eddie Bauer, Limited. XLS wasn't available until I believe 99 or was it 98? Dunno.

didnt XLS replace XLT?

I thought XLS was the sport and XLT was the four door? Either way...Welcome to Explorer Forum!

I see. Thats really goofy, thank you ford!!

From '91 to '97 it was XL, XLT, Eddie Bauer and Limited. In '98 XLS replaced XL. Up until 2001 or 2002 all Sports I think were just Sports I think. Then in '02 or '03 they started designating the base Sports XLS Sports.

plus a limited has painted grill (differnt grill) diffrent wheels and usally a odd color like pearl white instead of white..

Hi
From one newbie to another I have a 97 limited that I recently picked up Love it so far-- but as far as I can tell you the limited have all the gizmos and gadgets that are not features in the other models --leather interior-heated mirrors--moonroof--power on almost everything I can name

Unlimited?

It should be called an Unlimited if it has everything possible... :D

Actually let me revise that slightly. I don't think they started making Limiteds until 1993?

Yea, limited didn't start till '93 and XLS replaced XL in '98. Other than that I think you got it right! there were a few other models such as the XLT Sport('99-'05ish), NBX.

Most of the other options besides the air-ride was (I believe- correct me if I'm wrong) available in the other trim levels in some form or fashion, especially as the trim levels increased- some of the options were not available at all in the lower trim levels that were options on the upper levels, and standard on the Limited. I have leather and a moonroof in my '95 XLT.

Basically Ford's way to get you to spend mucho cash for a "standard feature vehicle" instead of optioning up a lower trim level truck for most of the stuff.

friggin crooks.
