Newbie here. I just got a 1997 Explorer. It's a 2WD XLT model.
How can I tell if it's got the Limited package? What does it consist of?
Thanks all in advance.
From '91 to '97 it was XL, XLT, Eddie Bauer and Limited. In '98 XLS replaced XL. Up until 2001 or 2002 all Sports I think were just Sports I think. Then in '02 or '03 they started designating the base Sports XLS Sports.
Hi
From one newbie to another I have a 97 limited that I recently picked up Love it so far-- but as far as I can tell you the limited have all the gizmos and gadgets that are not features in the other models --leather interior-heated mirrors--moonroof--power on almost everything I can name

Yea, limited didn't start till '93 and XLS replaced XL in '98. Other than that I think you got it right! there were a few other models such as the XLT Sport('99-'05ish), NBX.
Most of the other options besides the air-ride was (I believe- correct me if I'm wrong) available in the other trim levels in some form or fashion, especially as the trim levels increased- some of the options were not available at all in the lower trim levels that were options on the upper levels, and standard on the Limited. I have leather and a moonroof in my '95 XLT.
Basically Ford's way to get you to spend mucho cash for a "standard feature vehicle" instead of optioning up a lower trim level truck for most of the stuff.
