Yes 95XLT, it is a Toyota engine, dont know in with model, but DEFENETLY NOT Ford.
For my engine I would like the 4.0 block converted to diesel, I feel in a truck you need torque, not 1/4 miles performance. Then again everyone must do what they like...
Hey I second you on that. I hear in the near future the Expedition will be graced with a brand new diesel engine. When the happens I think I'll be the proud owner of an Expedition eddie bauer (Of course I'll keep the Explorer for off road fun :D ).
Also I read that eventually the Explorer may come with a small 2.5L diesel also. That should be cool.

My current X has the OHV. I have been extremely impressed with it. I have always had plenty of power (towed a car hauler and car half way across the country), gets decent milege, and I have yet to have any mechanical problems with the engine, knock on wood. The tranny on the other hand...well thats another story. However I did vote for the V8 because that is what I will be getting when I buy a different rig this fall. I like the power and torque it offers, and have heard almost all good things about it. I also like the stronger tranny that comes with it.

why? cos reguardless of how heavy and inadequte the power/weight the 5.0 provides, it still has the bada$$ rumble of a v8. Along with that is the capability for perfrmance and the nice torque rating. Good for towing if my dads truck won't start.

I like my 4.0L SOHC. Been good to me so far (knock on wood)!

BTW, I've participated in some market surveys on Explorers. One was completely about engines, and had options for various diesels. Of course, I voted for the diesel whenever possible, just so Ford would consider putting them in the Explorer. Just trying to do my little part to broaden our engine choices!

I would like the 4.0L SOHC because it has more power than my OHV. I wouldn't get the 5.0L cause it would be even more of a gas guzzler than my OHV.

a DOHC 4.0 would kick ass.
my mazda 626 has a DOHC 2.5 V-6 and it's surprisingly quick. but a lot of it might be the 4.28 gears

SC 5.4 Lightning v8. i would find it fun to bs with some guy at the gas station (would be there often) and convincing him that it is stock and can be found at the local dealer.

I think I'd stick with the pushrod 4 liter between the given choices. How can you go wrong with the worst sounding engine in history? And by the way, what is a canfield headed engine? Perhaps someone means a Cleveland or Modified engine?

id really like to see a diesel go into the explorers but im really satisfied with my 5.0. its been great minus the little defects (transfer case) but it sounds good and pulls nice. Only option i would like to see on the 5.0 woulda been a 5 speed manual option and a dual exhaust option.

302

im dropping a 302 from a boss mustang in my 92 splorer. im gonna like that!

4.6L DOHC Cobra engine that's in the Mustang Cobra R, I think it might even be supercharged. That could be loads of fun. I've got the OHV and I do have to say that I like it's reliabitly. I've had the car for 3 years now and it's never seen a shop or had anything break on it (becides a thermostat, cheap 10 dollar fix). CAC91, why do you think the 4.0 OHV sounds so crappy? I'm quite impressed on the note I get with my motor + Flowmaster.

^ hopefully

In jegs new catalog there is the 514 corba jet crate motor. If I had the 9 grand it would be in my X right now. They say it will fit a mustang so it must fit the X. I drool over that night LOL. but i have a 5.0L 302.

426Hemi

It would be tough to fit in it but a 502BB

But I have my engine and tranny for the swap I just need the money (Kid on the way).
My perfect engine for the EX is going to be the 5.0 Block that has been bored .30 over. I will have the entire assembly ballanced and blueprinted. Running GT40 Heads and the GT40 Upper and Lower intake. Roller Rockers. Large MAS and Throttle body. MSD Ignition, wires and distributor. 4 core big block radiator with electric duals and set up so I can install a mechanical fan if needed. Dual Optimas. Hydro Steering.
Last but not least I will retain the A/C, It is HOT in AZ!

Give me two years!

I was just paging through summit and noticed a 633 ci chevy big block....
Wouldn't have room for anything (steering, cooling, etc) inside the engine compartment but damn, what an engine.
Actually, when I do get around to doing an engine swap I will seriously be considering a chevy 350. Its a good engine, you can get parts for it anywhere and is cheap to mod. It also doesn't seem like much more work than dropping a 302 in. In either case you have to rewire everything, put a different tranny in, so the big difference would be changing the t-case too. Not to mention the fact that I have a bored 350 with an edelbrock performer package in storage.
Of course a boss 302 would make me just as happy.

5.0 liter of course......It's all about the cubes:D

Ok, I've changed my mind since two weeks ago I saw Dead Link Removed motor in a Merkur. 3.0 DOHC SHO motor with aluminum heads, twin turbo, twin intercooled. Just the ammount of weight I would save would help out perfromance quite a bit not to mention doubling my HP. And the mechanic who built this motor was very interested in doing the same to an Explorer since it has never been done (to the best of my knowledge). So now I'm putting off all of my other upgrades and just saving for this.
