1994 explorer 157k miles
u probably seen my post about blown head gasket possible intake or rings. i was thinking maybe another engine will do if its gonna cost alot to fix the mileage on the eng and trans is uknown they were changed out at 120k i guess due to engine smokeing which is weird at theat mileage. i think my engine in there is from a 95. so im thinking maybe a 94 or 95 maybe a 96? my mechanic can fine a low mileage one for me. trans shifts fine crossing my fingers. thanks alot.

According to Hollander Interchange, These will be acceptable donors.

A ----------
AEROSTAR 90-94 6-245 (4.0L, VIN X)
EXPLORER 91-94 (6-245, 4.0L, VIN X)
MAZDA B-4000 94 (6-245, 4.0L, VIN X)
MAZDA NAVAJO 91-94 (VIN X)
RANGER 90-94 6-245 (4.0L, VIN X)

Notes from Hollander:
German Ford 6-245 (4.0L)
Change induction & electrical systems as necessary.
Upper intake manifolds '91-92 have no EGR holes & '93-94 are available with or without EGR holes.
Switch oil pans as necessary. Pan changes in 1994.
Exhaust manifolds must be switched '91-92 & 93-94.
Left hand exhaust manifolds must be switched Cal./Fed. '93-94.
Right valve cover must be changed for extended oil filler.
Available with or without low oil sensors.
6 bolt crankshaft.

Again, this is what Hollander says, it's not the gospel of cross reference.
