Does it do that when the hubs are free or locked? Sounds like you need to inspect and replace the hubs. I had some new tires put on at Sears and as I drove away I heard this same clicking noise and then a loud pop. I ended up replacing both hubs and I haven't had any problems since.

Time to replace the hubs. Mine sounded like I'd put playing card in the spokes of my bicycle. Get sound for a 8 year old kid and his bike, bad sound for a grown up kid and his 4x4!

I've converted from 4x4 to RWD (my trans rebuild thread)

Can I just gut those hubs and use them as dust caps? (keeping the nut on the end of the axles of course)
