Wheel Stud replacement cost?

just a quick question

friend of the family was changign the brakes on my girlfriends HONDA, long story short, the previous owner of the car messed it up badly, and he ended up snaping a wheel stud off of it. nothing really the family friend could have done about it.


we have the stud , we just need it put on.
what does one of these cost to install?

i know you need a speical machine press to do it, so i am sure it is going to cost a reasonable sum, but just how much?

if you guys have any idea let us know we are trying to get an idea of how much this is going to cost

Wheel studs are about a buck and a half. You can put them on yourself for free. (I hope)

Yup, on my honda, I just pulled the hub/disc assembly and put it in, then I put the wheel back on and finished pulling it in with the lugnut...

hey guys.... this is ryan's girlfriend amy. i'm the one with the problem honda.....

we wish it was that easy. i don't know all the lingo to use so you guys will understand. there is a stud(?) stuck in the wheel. it snapped off. we have to pay to have this special machine press(?) take it out for us and then put in a good one.

thats what we're trying to figure out..... how much will it cost to have this done?!

All you need to do is get a punch and a hammer and pound that bad boy back through. It should pop right out with some coaxing.

yup a bfh will do it..... just needs to be hit from the inside.....

hmmm well if it was that easy i think our mechanic friend would have done it, he did mention something about how he tried to use a punch to get it out and what not.
he cut his finger up pretty bad trying to mess with this stupid thing

If a punch and a hammer don't work (standard procedure) then try using a c-clamp with a socket over the rear of the stud so you aren't clamping on the rear of the bolt. There is no mystery to how it's held in, it's just a tight fit.

If you really need to press it out, you're gonna have to remove the hub from the car and take it to a garage. Hydraulic (and most heavy duty mechanical) presses are not portable and can't be brought over to the car, you have to take the part to the press.

They shouldn't charge you more than $5-10 to press it out though. Takes about 3 seconds.

A shop may charge you a minimum shop charge. Most likely charge for 1/2 hour labor. I had to have one pressed out and replaced on my truck, and it was $35.

hmm.. is it a front disk?

If so, what the special machine that is needed maybe to press off/on the ABS stator ring, like the 93/94 Explorer rotors have. You can't just pound out the lug nuts on them - you have to remove the ABS stator ring, replace the lug, and put it back on.

It's cheaper to just replace the rotor instead of going through all this.

Look for a local machine shop, or call around for price on a new rotor assembly.

yes its a front disc.
this honda is a real jap car, we found that it was really made in Japan back in 93...

anyways
the stud is broke we just need it pressed out and a new one put in.

going in a few hours to see about getting it done...let you guys know
