im at the point i want i do something drastic with my x, but im not sure what. i love the look of the explorers of my generation layed out, but i have 4wd to deal first...this is what it looks like now but i dont think i wanna keep going up

i searched the forum and couldn't find an answer so i come and post..if i ditch all my front suspension and differential, can i leave the the transfer case in with out a front driveshaft or will that screw it up? i'm not even opposed to putting in the full frontclip from a tacoma, s-10, ranger whatever i can find, to eliminate the 4wd stuff. but what i really need to know is is it going to require me to replace the transmission with a 2wd one, or can i possibly get the tail shaft off a 2wd trans and just get a new driveshaft and toatally eliminate 4wd all together.

if you've seen my other truck, in the forums, im not scared of a little fab work I'm just wondering if this has been done before and if its worth starting this project.

and yes i know "just buy a 2wd" is the easy answer, but i also know i'm not the only one on here who may be attached to their truck and don't consider that an option.

Do you really want two trucks layin' frame?

What about just a paint job and some wheels and tires?

To answer the question about the front drive shaft, I've seen guys on here that have done it with no problems.

...I can't wait to see how this truck transforms...

I don's see how just taking the from drive shaft off would effect it. I say take it out drive it for a few weeks and see what happens b/4 ya move on to taking out all the 4wd stuff.

If you want to ditch the front suspension & differential, you'll need to remember to keep half of the cv axles in place so that you don't lose your front wheels.. Your hub assemblies anchor to them thus removing the cv axles will cause some problems as some of us have found. To be more frank, I would just try to find a 2wd explorer at a junk yard and start pulling parts off the front end.

yeah im still on the fence...i thought about just repainting it and maybe putting it on some 20's. but ive got a big chunk of change and kinda want to go crazy.....

i do have all the flares a rear bumper and hatch off a 2001 that are going on soon and it will all be painted to make it look like a 2000-2001 limited but i still wanna change the altitude a lil bit. and i think im goin to spray it anyway either pearl white, or i've seen some maroon limiteds that were really clean and "expensive" looking

im going to have to get under there again, because if i can ditch my half shafts but keep the ends i may be able to just modify the stock suspension to lay out which would make things easier in the motor mount, accesories, and all that crap department.

please keep the advice, input, and whatever else coming-lol

......I knew this was going to get good...

..Any updates on this???
