Bolt in for the most part using the current 5.0L intakes, etc:

the factory Explorer exhaust manifolds will restrict the power you can make from one of these. I would reccomend the Torque Monster headers to go along with the new powerhouse. You don't have to go through Ford Racing there are many aftermarket 5.0L engine builders. (You'r buddies Dad? have him build your 5.0L)

You can also upgrade the 5.0L you have in there.

Going to a larger block is going to be tricky on a Gen II Explorer, although anyhting is possible. The steering shaft, exhaust manifolds, and A/C plenum are all jambed in on that V8 pretty good.

a 351 SB is still alot larger then the GT-40 5.0L in your truck.
The 97 4r70W trans you have can be upgraded to handle 450+ HP with simple parts.

I think the 377"-408" windsor would be more than enough fun for any Ex.... :)

But for simplicity any of the 302 based strokers would haul a$$ and fit right in your Ex with no problems. Just watch the 347's for the oil ring intersecting the wrist pin due to the short piston height required. It causes oil consumption issues.

The new kits like mine have solved the problem by moving the pin down, away from the ring groove, and slightly shorter rod.

I seen that jt.. Probe has a killer kit with the short rod and the new piston that is supposed to be real nice. Shame they didn't have that back when I did the stroker in my stang years ago.

Build a stroker from your own motor. Have some head work done, match up the intake, add a bigger throttle body / air meter then have someone tweek the computer to run well with your new combo. 300 reliable horsepower isn't hard to do at all from that motor. A well tuned 331 or 347 stroker will make all the power you need. Just remember it will be a foul running beast if you don't do the whole job of getting it sorted out and tuned properly after it is in.
