Who here runs HID headlights????

i have 55 watt hids in my head lights and 2 sets of daylighters and i olny have one harness for the 4 day lighters and have no issues at all

Its not an issue, but what he means is, that if a ballast ever decides to go haywire, he'd rather have it destroy a 10-20$ harness (relay) rather than his whole stock headlight harness.

(A relay brings power to the ballasts from the battery, rather than pulling it from the stock wiring. With a relay, the only thing the stock harness does, it tell the relay to kick on, and if you have a Bi-Xenon kit, it tells it to pull the bulb back for the high beam effect)

Yeah, I'm sure tons of people don't use relays and suffer no ill effects to their wiring, but I'm not taking the gamble. I'd MUCH rather pay the $15 for a relay and peace of mind, then have to shell out God knows how much money to replace all my wiring.

Yours may be working fine now or for a while, but you never know what may happen down the road. It's a very small investment that could save you TONS of money and headache in the future.

I would advise everyone to get a relay harness. Unless, of course, you like to live on the edge. :p:

Some people are just REALLY hard headed and wont try a relay until they're wiring actually gets fried :dpchug:

I know lots of people who have gotten by just fine without relay harnesses and I've seen lots of compelling arguments in the past to not waste the money.

I personally use one to be safe (and get better performance with the autolamp feature), but I don't think the sky is falling nearly that badly if you don't use one. I have yet to see anyone actually fry their stock harnesses yet when they wired their HID kits properly.

so are the hi/low the ones to run?

I am thinking about just running them on my his

I've had two sets of the "Bi-xenon" HIDs. They both sucked. They're not actual high beams. All that happens is the light capsule just gets shifted around a bit (and in my case it just moved a very blotchy light pattern from one part of the road to another). I never saw any benefit. You get plenty of light from the low beams anyhow.

i was thinking about the ddm kit with the hi/low bulbs.i was kind of worried about the movement of the bulb to get hi and low.i would think you wouldn't even need hi beams if you have hid.i think i might just go with hid low and halogen hi.

If I were to do it again, that's the way I'd go. That is what I have in my projector housings. 4300K HID in the lows and Osram halogens in the highs. I rarely turn on the highs except for flash to pass.

well just called ddm and the regular bulb is just hid so you would lose high beams, you have to use there hi/low bulb and it is hid for both, the bulb moves.im pretty sure ive seen 9004 bulbs that have hid for low and halogen for high beams or am i just crazy??

I run 55w 6000Ks all the way around my truck hi's lo's and fogs. The amount of light i can lay down is staggaring.

oh so that's what flash to pass means. oops...

well ive had hids since 3 years ago on my car and never been pulled over i say as long as they r not a purple or other color like that they wont stop u i got 6,000k on mine and got my hids on ebay lol for like 35 bucks

Its HID, but not the stock housing ;)

Wow my hat goes off to you. I am having a hard time building a custom housing for my projector but then again I am doing it from scratch. I think making it out of metal will get too hot and it's hard to find a durable plastic that's not already shaped into a headlight.
