Ok, so i walk out to my xplodr this morning, get in, turn the key, and nothing. so i get on explorer forumm... and i found this article http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146784&highlight=starter+solenoid+pictures

im a newb.

Right now, i can crank my engine using the terminal on the fender (turning ignition on, and closing the circuit between the two posts) It fires right up.

This proves to me ( i think) that the terminal, and the starter are in working condition. I then connected the positive lead of my voltmeter to the battery post (+) and the negative lead to the (+) post on the terminal. then i cranked, and recieved less than .2 volts... I think this means that the battery cable between the terminal, and the battery is fine.

My relay, and fuse are not blown either... ( apparently)

I am stuck now... I dont know what to do. I believe the problem must be either in the ignition switch in my solenoid? I dont understand how to test them, or where the solenoid is... sooo...

Lil' help please :-)

The two terminals you crossed are on the starter solenoid. It most likely means you need a new starter solenoid. Should look something like this:

update:

I bought a new ignition switch (12 bucks - autozone) and finally removed the old one... (a couple bolts/screws) . i hooked up the new one, but didnt put it back in place ( didnt realize it needed to be in place when i attempted to start) and i hooked up power, and turned the key, to ensure that it was, indeed, my problem. well.. needless to say, things didnt work. so i went to put it into place, and now, my key tumbler will not even move the pin.. it just moves freely about 180 degrees. did i mess something up by not having the ign. switch into place before turning the key?

I also determined that the ign. switch is not the problem.. so i'm not sure whats the deal.

When i activate the switch ( i had to do it with my hand, and not the key) i can hear the solenoid click...

I tested the solenoid by removing all cables, and applying power the the S terminal... i heard it click...

tell me your thoughts.

As said above. If you can start the vehicle by jumping the two posts on the solenoid..it's a bad solenoid....

friend of mine has to start her jeep with a screw driver because of the solinoid.....thats your problemmm

Fixed the starting problem! - It was the Ignition switch! THANKS FOR THE HELP... :wtf:

On another note -

I broke the spade end off of my key tumbler in the process! Awaiting reply from locksmith, with finished new tumbler. ( prolly in the morning)

IMPORTANT WHEN REPLACING IGNITION SWITCH >

DO NOT TURN THE KEY WHEN IGNITION SWITCH IS REMOVED-
(THATS HOW MINE BROKE!!! )

Hmm.. i should do a write up since there were no writeups available when i had to pioneer it.
