Wind / Whistle Noise from Front Door / Mirror?

Although the mounting base is slightly different, I'm guessing it would be like that on all the 2020 Explorers but only a few have this "whistle" issue.

Yep - and the catch being what the base looks like on the fix @TonyST gets on the passenger side. If there’s any visual difference, etc...then it’s another data point on a fix. Maybe this is option #4 of 3 other possibilities that worked for others. Fingers crossed!

Check out post #82. The new looks just like the old but then again the member, blwnsmoke, wasn't sure if the entire mirror, base and all, was replaced or just the mirror portion. Whatever was replaced worked.

Gotcha - kind of a side question, but are other service departments able to look up another dealers work orders to reference?

New to the forum and found it because I too am having the same issues with the 2020 ST I picked up 2 weeks ago. Whistling coming from the passenger side at 55mph+. Been trying to troubleshoot and have my girlfriend drive while I mess with the mirror and mine too goes away when the mirrors are folded in. Hoping to figure something out soon, the noise is driving me nuts!!

Take it to the dealer and have them check it out and record the issue. A new mirror has solved the problem for some.

Just picked up my Explorer ST a few weeks ago, and I'm enjoying the truck. However, I'm running into a strange issue. At low speeds, roughly 25 mph, you can hear a distinct whistling from the front passenger side door. At highway speeds, the whistle becomes more of a fluttering. I looked the door over closely, and didn't see any obvious causes.

I had the car at the dealership last week for the issue, and though they claimed to have fixed it, the sound persists. Going back later this week to take a drive with the service manager.

Anyone experiencing something similar? Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

I am having the same issue. The second day I had I noticed it. Dealer had it for a week and said they aligned the door and fixed it. Got it back now its even worse. Taking it back in tomorrow. Has anyone been able to get this fixed?

If you read back through some of the posts you will find that some were able to get it fixed with a new mirror and another by getting the weatherstripping replaced.

Dealer called said it is fixed. They replaced the molding track that the window moves up and down. I am picking it up in the morning. Will let everyone know if it solved the issue

I just had my ST in the shop today, they replaced the passenger side rearview mirror assembly and that fixed the low speed whistle. Warranty replacement of course and it is a whopping $1100 if you bought that assembly. Steve took care of me on this.

Left my XLT at the dealership 10/18 and told them I'm not picking it up until they figure out what it is. Have Ford corporate tag teaming, and was told yesterday they think it's coming from the windshield seal - they have the company coming out to reseal the windshield today. Fingers crossed.

Have the same issue. Anything over 75km and I get whistling wind noise from the passenger window. Did anyone have issues with the dealer fixing it?

Yes, some members posted here that the dealer was able to fix the noise without any issues.

Well, I took mine in to the dealer last week for the third time and was told that (1) the whistle they have heard from the driver's side mirror is "normal" for the vehicle so (2) any further troubleshooting would incur a $125 diagnostic fee that would be refundable only IF there was a repair to do!!

Yes, I am not happy.

I will, however, probably wait until Spring/Summer to address this further as we're in the rainy season right now and I'll admit the whistle is hard to hear with other road noise.

At that time, I may call Ford before I go in again!!

I would call Ford and let them know of that BS story. This is a 2020 still under warranty. They have to check it as long as you have warranty and you feel their is an issue!!! I will report them.

I am now getting the whistle on the passenger side. Funny thing is, I never heard the whistle before I turned off the folding mirrors. I think I will turn them back on and see it the sound goes away.

I took our Limited in for the same issue. They had it for a week and reported that the a-frame was hollow and had no cap. They said that they filled the frame with expanding foam and the noise went away.

I pick it up tomorrow and will get pictures of what they did and where it was

My dealer verified the whistle from the passenger side mirror area at low speeds when my vehicle was 6 months old. They replaced the passenger side mirror assembly under warranty and the whistle went away. Tell them to talk to Ford. I know there have been a bunch fixed this way.

I’m having the same issue. I’ve had my 2021 there 3 times. They have told me it is fixed every time but it hasn’t been.

What part is that they claimed they fixed? Mirrors? Cowl?
