Wind / Whistle Noise from Front Door / Mirror?

Would you be willing to share the part number(s) from the work order etc.? Great ammo when heading back to the dealer and convince them it's not "normal"!! Thanks!!

Ken
I don't have my paperwork with me but can get it on Tuesday. I'm dropping off in the AM then for poor AC temps

Hi Ken. I just checked Fordparts and I'm guessing it may be the one shown as Part # 17683 ($1185.28) since it is on backorder. ;) Unfortunately, I was not able to find it on the AutoNation site. Let's see what blwnsmoke comes back with.

Peter

I have a brutal wind/whistling noise coming from the passenger side - on the list to get checked out. Working my way through the list, but this has been the worst new car I've ever owned. Missing hood insulator, lurchy trans, cracked door pillar trim and this now - barely want to drive it.

Welcome to the Forum Ryan.
I can't recall if the hood insulator was actually a missing item or not a required install on the XLT. Some members ordered and installed their own.
Missing Part? Hood insulation pad As for the transmission, perhaps this applies; List of Useful Threads - 6th Generation Ex and Aviator Recalls, TSB, FSA and SSM

Peter

According to the parts dept, it was on the build sheet for my particular XLT...so at least in my case, a missing part! They were good about it and ordered it all for me.

Mine was the mirror, got a new mirror put in and no more whistling.

new part #?

Also curious if the mirror part supersedes a deprecated one. Mine's been in the shop since Wednesday for the door (and a couple other) issues. They taped off the entire door, and the whistle persisted.

Then, they replaced the mirror with a ST on their lot that DIDN'T have the whistle, and the mirror still whistled on my ST. I'm confused now.

I wanted my ST back instead of the $20k Fusion I'd been driving, as my dealer said when they talked to Ford, there was an open issue on their system for this, but no confirmed documented fix yet.

In your case, it could possibly be the moulding or weatherstripping around the door.

That was something I had considered, but wouldn't taping off and around the entire door eliminate that? They mentioned that the whistle went away with the mirror folded in - which I forgot to mention in my last post.

It sounds like a mirror issue then if the sounds disappeared when they were folded. Taping the door should eliminate the moulding.

My thinking, too. Real curious about the mirror part number that was replaced that fixed it for @blwnsmoke. I don't know how Ford part #'s work, but in Yamaha motorcycle realm, part numbers show they've been superseded by adding a -01 suffix to the end

I know they use -X for revisions sometimes

The AutoNation site doesn't even show the outside mirrors. When I emailed them about it they said they don't control the parts site and to send them a VIN if I wanted info on them. Their site usually posts a note that the current part number replaces part **********.

I was chatting with FordParts yesterday and they provided the PN for my XLT but noted there was no part revision on the mirror. Could very well just be differences in quality/F&F from mirror to mirror.

Do you have the part #?

Here is a link to it.

Thanks for part number. Interesting that the part number does not produce results on either the AutoNation or Fordparts website. But 17862 does show on the Fordparts site as does 17863, the lefthand mirror. Searching for the entire part number produces this; "Part searched may be obsolete or invalid. Please contact your dealer". I'm guessing some of the numbers/letters must have changed.
