OK Ive got a 01 X Sport and noticed today I have a crack in my windshield. Had to have happened today. Its midway down on the passenger side of the windshield. Looks like a small rock hit the very edge of the windshield and crack it. Its about 8 inches long in a horizontal direction.
Now im pretty sure I already know the answer but I figured Id give it a shot. Does any1 think this can be fixed or should I jsut bite the bullet and have it replaced? Ive already got a quote of about $300 to have it replaced. Just tryin to save so dough if possible. If I replace it, ill have to have it done. I can fix engines but trust myself with body work.

I vote to replace it.

In the past, I had a long crack fixed by a windshield place. I think the repair lasted maybe a few weeks.

I am not aware of any reliable crack repair.
Chip, yes but not a crack.

Replace.

BTW this is not a DIY job. :nono:

Call your insurance company and see what they say, alot of times they will see if they can do anything they can to fix it free of charge to you.

I came to the same conclusion, ive got the window company that repairs out fleet trucks coming out 2mrrow to replace it. Awsome price compared to everywhere I called. Thanks for the help, and your def correct...not a DIY job. Ive never tried it and prob never will.

Thanks for the ideas everyone......

how much did it run you because I too am in need of windshield replacement

last month i had the similar problem , i don't know about repairing but i got replaced it,
as you wish you can find the any option suitable for you, but i would suggest replacement would be better.

I have replaced windshields with rubber gaskets several times before. What is the deal with these? Seems to have an adhesive to be cut through and then cleaned and adhesive reapplied. What am I missing?

gaskets like the ones found in older ford f150's rear windows or 80's chevy haft tons, yes i would say most people can do, but for the ones found in explorers, no. if you prep it wrong, it will leak. also, with it being urethane in, it also becomes a structural panel. for example, if you were in a collision, and the air bags went off, they can kick the windshield out of the truck, or if you were in a roll over, and it is not done properly, the roof will cave in. also, if you have never done one before, it can get very messy very quick.
