I know the general opinion is :nono: .. but can it be done? what are the adverse effects of doing it? can do something to work around those adverse effects?

I need to put new fogs in, and I have two problems.

1) Im dont want to pay $200 for fog lights that arent even that cool/bright looking

2) Im selling the truck soon, so I want the install to look as clean/factory looking as possible... integrating the fogs with the stock switch will look damn good. But im only doing it if its safe.

If you are replacing the stock lights with aftermarket, it won't be a problem. I swapped out the factory fogs on my '92 for a set of KC Daylighter sealed beams and never had a problem. The best way to do it is to cut the wiring plug off of the factory lights and SOLDER it to the new light wiring harness. Plug the lights in, and off you go.

A problem MIGHT occur if you are adding a set of lights to the existing fogs on the same wiring harness. You might draw more current than the relay and wiring is rated for.

depends on the wattage of the lights your using. There is always a way to do it though. I have 100 watt lights hooked up to my stock fog switch in my f-150. Pretty easy to do. I wouldn't recommend just splicing into the fog light wires on a high wattage light like that, you definately won't get the power your looking for and it could be bad news for the wiring as well as the lights.

So... hook up the relay as you were as if you were going to be installing an aftermarket switch. power ot power, ground to ground, etc. etc. Take the hot wire coming out of the relay that goes to the switch, and splice this into your fog light wire. That easy. That way when you flip the switch for your fog lights, it sends power to the relay which in turn gives all the power needed ot the lights, without damaging the existing wiring.
VOILA! :)

What another member person told me to do was take the + from the the stock wiring harness and connect it to the aftermarket fogs relay where the switch would go. Then connected the rest of everything up per the direction. just leave out the switch part.
