alll righty, went out at school to start my car and it just clicked and went dead. i figured no big deal said a few choice words and got out to jiggle the negative terminal cable b/c it has done it before, well i jiggled the wire and nothing happend i tried jumping the soleniod and nothing the lights just went out and clicked if i hooked jumper cables up then it would start to start but act like the battery was almost dead, slowy turn over and then nothing. i bypassed the solenoid and even still every time i turn the key to the start position everything dimms out even with jumper cables. i changed the starter and nothing changed. so i have no clue now
is it the ignition, soleniod, starter or maybe even the ecm?

Check for fuel pressure and to see if the fuel pump works. Also your battery might be drained from you trying to start it.. You might wanna put the battery on a charger.

I agree with Blee1099, sounds like the battery. Cables could be corroding from the inside as well.

its def not the fuel pump it is acting like its not getting any electrical problem, the battery shouldnt be dead b/c nothing was on and i turned the key and click everything went out, it had been running minutes earlier. so unless the battery shorted it should be ok its a relativly new optima. im getting ready to try jumping it off at the solenoid if it cranks it will then be the positive cable i imagine.i hope b/c the only other thing else it could be is the ecm, if anybody has any suggestions please help its stuck in the principles parking place at school and he is not happy

Disconnect the battery terminals and hook ther jumper cables directly to the terminals, as iuf you had no battery. I have had a battery to drain or short out the current from the jumpers enough that it would not turn over. All your dome lights, fuel pump, and radio may all come on, but your starter requires much more amperage from the battery to turn over, thats why everything goes dim.

Or it could be correded/damaged wires not being able to carry the current to the stater motor. But if that was the case, I wouldn't think everything else would dim out.

its deff the battery..my 91 tracker did this same thing. for me it was the batterys way of telling me it was on its way out (didnt listin drove 45 mins on alt =))

so id charge the batt then if the truck starts get to a place that can check the batt a load test and everything then check ur charging system..make sure ur grounds are in order and such

well guys it ended up being the battery cables i went out to my favorite salvage yard and pulled some to test it before i almost a hundred bucks from ford, and it worked started right up. thank u guys for the help hopefully this thread will help someone else now

Just to add to this, you can get an exact fit battery cable for about $30 from Pep Boys.
