Would a 4.6L from a Stang fit?

I would think the 4.6L would be more or less the same as the ones in the Explorers, right? But then would it then fit into an early Explorer? Is there a certain nice (bulletproof) tranny that I could put on that one, with probably a Atlas II t/c. Anyone have a setup like this at all. I'm in the process of fixing up a nice engine for my Mustang, and it'd be a shame to have a V8 just sitting there

theres a guy on one of the MSN explorer boards that has a 98 or so 4.6 into a 98 ranger..it fit..but its tight.

there are a few guys right now working on the 4.6L conversion.
the steering shaft gets re-located and an additional U joint is needed. the brake booster makes for an interesting clearance issue, and you can forget about A/C
