Both of the rear coil springs on my 2002 explorer xlt 4x4 are broken. Is it a manufacturer defect? How much will it cost to fix my explorer?

Thanks for your help!

LOL how did you break them? Its very difficult to "break" coil springs.
You can probably drive your vehicle over a 5-ft cliff and those coil springs will be perfectly fine.
Can you describe how they "broke" or maybe take pics of the coils?

Maybe he took his X over a 6-foot cliff then.

Well if he did, then some one some where must have pictures of the jump :D

The explorer has 113k highway miles. I have not been off roading with it. I was under it trying to find out why the suspension was squeeking when i make a turn, and when it put
on my brakes, the explorer jerks before i have come to a complete stop.
I found that the the second top ring on both the rear springs were broken completely.

I can't get any pics because I dropped it off at the shop already.

So the coil istelf, or what the coil sits in?

did you buy this truck used?..someone cut them to lower truck...:dunno:

The coil itself is broken.

I put new pads and rotors on 5000 miles ago.

I bought the explorer brand new.

Wow I would love to see pics of these coils -- ask the shop for them :D

This is the first time I've heard of this problem on this Forum .. I'm sure the 3rd Generation Explorer owners on the Forum would be very interested in hearing this. So please keep us posted :D

I will ask for the coil springs and will try to take pics soon.

there is a thread about the springs on the 3rd or 4th page.

I just hope it doesn't cost too much to fix.
Just paid it off in a few months ago.
I am now making payments to shops and murrays auto parts instead of the dealership. :(

Wow.....

i have the same issue with my pass side rear coil spring, i just noticed it this weekend when rotating my tires. It broke on the second coil down. It cant be too rare because the ford dealer said its very common.
