'11 Explorer Revealed!!

I still hate it. It's just a car and looks like so many others on the road today. They should've killed the Explorer name instead of releasing it this way. Long live the Explorer. RIP. 1991-2010.

A lot of resemblance to the Range Rover right down to the traction management system, more so than to any existing Ford vehicle. BTW, its also a uni-body.

At least the RR is still rwd and designed as a truck vehicle...This thing looks like a redesigned 2010 Edge...I can't see getting rid of my 99 X any time soon...And besides I already have a car and it came with a V8 standard...

2011 Ford Explorer

Okay, so I logged into my Yahoo!Mail account this morning, and on the log in page, there is an advertisement for the 2011 Explorer. Now, let me tell you, this is one of the UGLIEST vehicles I have EVER seen. If you type in 2011 Ford Explorer on Google Images, it only brings up concept pictures, not the real ones, so you have to go to the Yahoo!Mail log in page or the Ford site to see what I am talking about. At this point, the Ford Flex looks more likie a truck than the Explorer! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!!!!!!! :thumbdwn::mad::frustrate:censored::shoot::fire:

What do you guys have to say about this outrageous design that Ford has?

Well, I'm pleased with it. With the Ford plan in full swing, you can't build a BOF SUV and maintain enough sales (as was seen with the last Ex) to make it worthwhile as a major vehicle in your stable.

The TMS will make it as capable as any stock Gen I, II , or III and the fuel economy will make it much more desirable to those who need better mileage like I do. The on-road qualities will draw customers who don't roll off-road, or use it in the city. Ford is nailing the market with the biggest potential with this new Ex. With regards to towing, the I-4 is pulling 5,000 lbs... When the ecoboost is announced, it's lights out for the Grand Cherokee.

I'll be pre-ordering mine probably by week end, and will hopefully have roon int he garage once I can finish fixing Shamrock and get 'er sold. New Ex should roll in about year-end. Anyone want to buy some old fashioned V8 technology? She'll be for sale shortly!

...and the pics were all taken at Lake Tahoe. :P

The specs and models are posted on the ford website. N/A V6 with 290 HP and eco-boost 4 with 237HP. No ecoboost V6. 5k towing is with the V6.

nice looking cross-over, but they shouldnt have put the explorer name on it.

I know right?! I HATE the new one. It really is mmore of a "car" than the Edge now.

Also if you add Explorer on Facebook, you can get videos. I've had them added for a long time.

yak- I meant 5,000 with the NA V6. When out the Twin Turbo V6 will elevate the towing... It's been a long morning... :D

I think it's a great blend of new technology, on and off road capability, fresh design, and an incredible interior. Ford is meeting the vast majority of the market with this Explorer. I'll be replacing my '97 with one...

So what do you all think of this? I don't think the styling is bad but I don't think it should have the Explorer name.

I like it. It's not like it would ever replace my '96, but it'd be a great ride for the wife and kids.

There's a **** ton of talk going on about it in the 2011 Forum.

Same as briway.. This is just an Edge.. Ima call it the EDGE XL.. or we can call it a minivan?

I'll be ordering in the spring, we'll be taking a month long road trip out west next summer and prefer to wait to see if any new model bugs shake out.

I agree, Ford nailed it again. From the pictures, the fit and finish look amazing. lets hope full production models look as good.

Anyone see an ordering guide? Looks like the 4 is not available yet.

I can deal with the uni-body. The styling is nice. I don't mind it carrying the Explorer name. Could they just have made it RWD? and maybe more than 5000lb of towing. Not that my boat weighs in that much. But I like having "reserve"

It looks like a nice vehicle but as others stated though its just a car...and don't think it should have gotten the explorer model name it should just be called "the reinvention of the Edge". They claim 5k tow rating when properly equipped but a vehicle primarily FWD just don't sound strong enough for that.

Technological advancements make incredible things possible... ;)

That's the issue to me- the 'reserve' if the towing isn't required, why have it there? They can put a big frame under it, a big engine, get 15 mpg, so the capacity says 8,000 lbs. Then I pull a 2,000 lbs. fishing boat with it when I can be entirely satisfied with a unibody, 25 mpg, and 5,000 lbs. towing capacity. If you need more towing, you can get a larger vehicle. It can't be all things to all people...

I was wondering why I couldn't edit my last post- I kept getting 'invalid post' :D

In other news...

Looks like the hype is indeed real

I think you really gotta see it in person before making any judgements. It may be smaller or bigger than we think.

Did anyone else catch that it doesn't even come with a full sized spare tire?

"Mini spare tire: Standard"

ETA: The mini spare that came with my wife's 2010 Escape is NOT rated for towing by the way.
