Deep Contemplation

@BKennedy I will. I didn't mean to go so off thread and off topic. I'll wrap this up saying that I haven't lost my enthusiasm working on Explorers in general. Late yesterday, when I had got home and after being heat beat all week, I realized that I was tired of working on certain Explorers that I own and want to sell some of them off to reduce my number of vehicle responsibilities.
If anyone has questions pertaining to anything in this thread it is ok to PM me. I'll answer as soon as possible. During the weekdays I may not log in to The Explorer Forum. I've said it before, Thanks Rick and all the rest of you to keep it going. I hope I am round in 25 years to see where it has made it to.

:burnout:

You are sitting on a goldmine, one of those mustangs would look good in my driveway.

There are a ton of cars in that list that would make great projects. I seem to end up with more than one of each or two that are similar, I like spares. here's the 4V Cleveland of my last 73 I got last Fall. I need to get it home to work on the carb, it doesn't like to start at all, and I've never owned an Edelbrock.

I believe I have an Edelbrock on my 68 cougar. I could never get it to run right. The headers turn cherry orange instantly. I got the carb in trade when I swapped in the 4R70 transmission. The C4 was traded for an edelbrock carb and performer intake. He gave me a set of seats too.

I've had nothing but bad luck with the Edelbrock carbs. I had one on a Dodge once and more recently on a 1985 TA. I had to install a check valve to keep the bowl from draining itself overnight.
@CDW6212R Is that a Torino with a 351 Cleveland? The one (Mustang) that I am working on now has a Holley 650 on it. I had to jet it down one step with us being 800 ft above sea level and purchase throttle plates with little bitty holes so it would idle. PO had the throttle cracked to keep it idling

I hope you aren't stopping with explorers all together
I enjoy your conversation

Oh no. Just thinning the herd a little...

My first car was a 72 Gran Torino, so I've always stayed connected with that front end. So I bought a 73 Ranchero after a rust bucket 72, and back then a 72 front end was easy to come by. After 25 years of not making time to work on it, I bought another 73 to swap parts between them and build the one I wanted. This is the one I got and is complete, a NV car with no AC, LOL.

Nice! That reminds me that way out back at our Shop property there is a '72 Torino stripped and built in to a roundtrack car. It was never quite finished however it could be. It was painted up like the old Woods Brothers paint scheme. It has some of the roll cage in it and the the nine inch was modified into a quarter locker. The paint is about weathered to the primer. No engine or trans. Someone could buy it and finish it in to a local dirt or pavement 1/4 to 1/2 mile roundtrack car. Tell your weekend warrior friends. I know they race up that way too.

How big is the back lot? Any chance of getting a tour someday?

Is that a Torino or a Gran Torino? They are all super rare now, the Torino forum I'm part of has tons of late 60's Fords and all of the mid sized 70's stuff. People are posting regularly with their projects, updates and part searches etc.

This is where I was 25 years ago, this 72 front end was less than $100 complete when I got it. But it has grown some rust in many places, it needed a buddy to mate with.

Just needs headlights and a white roof.

@Josh P The back lot is just over an acre. The Shop is on the front acre. The place seems huge when it's too hot to really be out there. I/we have 2 acres, 100 ft x 850 ft. If I can find one I want to downsize to an acre . I'd rather have a place 210 ft x 210 ft. We are in a little pocket currently that county officials haven't been bothering. But it is not too far from being zoned residential. Fly in to north Alabama to drive the 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis home and I'll give you the nickle tour.
@CDW6212R Is that the same Ranchero? The '72 racecar was made up from discard Torino pieces way back in the '90s. It's a coupe style but not really Gran Torino. The front sheet metal was shortened in the marker light area and a '74 Bumper tucked up under the header some. It's '74 ish on the front, '72 on the back, that is if I can remember correctly. Your 4 hours away if you want a cheap racing body I'd make it worth your drive down.

LOL, the other side has a grey door, I tested a color choice, didn't thrill me, and changed my mind to a dark blue not much different than my other one.

The rougher one is pictured from the early 90's. It ran when I bought it, but the prior owner had a 302 in it, and it died a month later. I swapped the front before the engine went, and the interior I swapped later with my parents old 72 GT, my first car. I loved the bucket seats and console, those were the major options my parents ordered, and a 351C-2V.

Johnny cash had a song about a car like this. It is a nice car and they are getting to be rare. Don't see many around.

What is the price tag on the 2010? Have any pictures?

~$7000 to $8000. I'll send you some pictures after the quarter panel is painted. Maybe even before. It will be ~3 weeks. The '70 is front and center until it leaves.
added- Everything works on this vehicle.
Added more- I gotta go work on my '99 Ranger I'll post pics later...

I run a pair on my '60 Dart. The ones the car came with had that issue. They were old and sloppy at the throttle shafts. I purchased a new set with the annular boosters and other upgrades and have not had the issue since. The annular boosters really help with responsiveness as well.

The only issue I had with my Edelbrocks was the drain back issue. In every other respect I find that they hold a tune better than Holley carbs do.
