97' mountaineer 5.0 special exhaust question

dude either way id be spending way too much and if u look on there site its 698$ believe me iv done my research in these thing. and i can say 800 cuz originally that wat they r before the 100 off.

Wait untill one of your exhaust manifolds crack and you have to pay Ford over $500 for ONE manifold.

I get sick and tired of people crying over the cost of Torque Monsters.

If you dont want to spend $630 for TM headers but want performance consider a shift kit for your transmission

Intake and exhaust mods, intake spacers, CAI, muffler changes, pipe changes, etc will do nothing for power because of the bottleneck manifolds
So spend your $$$ wisely

Best bang for buck mods IMO on 5.0L Ex:
1. TM headers (of course)
2. Shift kit for 4r70w
3. Computer tune
4. 4406 4x4 conversion

making more power with your 5.0L is IMPOSSIBLE with the factory manifolds, no matter what parts you throw at it, with those damn pinky sized exhaust chambers the 5.0L is being choked

Actually the cost for a new ford manifold is closer to $800, and that's just one side

lol with all those welds and bends its no surprise they are $800 :)
Go get a quote frmo your local exhaust pro on modifyingother 5.0L shorty headers to work or even starting from scratch, coat them, get new hardware, an EGR pipe, gaskets = TM headers worth every single penny and then some!

Every time I see a pic of the factory manifolds, I cringe at the 3 cylinders trying to breath through that one small ass passage. Total suckage. You may not get the answer you want to hear on this site, but the general consensus is right about 100% of the time. Adding a bunch of mods and keeping the factory manifolds is like building a rock crawler and running stock size tires.

Sorry to jump in but 410, do you think changing the shifting with a tuner is enough or should you get a shift kit too?

The 4r70w REALLY benefits from a good shift kit/ valve body mods

Funny that I know this yet I have not upgraded wither of my 4r70w's yet! LOL
then see if you need the computer tune still

I will be ordering a new updated valve body and shift kit for my BII soon, also going to fix the acumulator spring issue while I am in there... my truck DEFINATLEY needs a computer tune as well, my poor 98 pCM is all confused getting signals from a 1988 speed sensor, 35" tires with 4.10 gears, the overdrive shift can happen at 35 mph if I dont leave it off......LOL

Take it from me as well that Torque Monster Headers are worth every penny and then some. You know everytime I think I'm done performance I want more and more. Now I'm wanting to throw a shift kit on my truck and maybe a louder exhaust and maybe when the time comes a rebuilt motor. Quick question though I already have the SCT tuner, would changing the exhaust and adding a shift kit require me to have the device re-tuned or not?? BTW, Eric are you still on for this weekend?

Tmh for the win
You are only as good as your smallest bottleneck

When did you get them?

In June 2023. I just installed them with remflex gaskets Had to modify the EGR tube I'm just wondering if dual exhaust would help over the Gibson. I have which already makes a big difference.

True duals with a crossover sure seems to be the way to go with these
However on most 5.0 builds I do we just use a decent dual in single out muffler and run a 2.5”
Tailpipe, makes good torque
3” tailpipe a little less torque down low

With that said I have two trucks now running true duals and the sound is way better that is for sure (sounds like mustang not truck)

This has been discussed here quite a bit here 5.0 exhaust and power goals
Happy searching!

Just curious, when did you order them? I've been waiting since Dec 2022

Two mufflers are better than one, which is an actual dual exhaust.

Your right about true duals

My 03 sport trac has
5.0 w comp energy cam
Obx headers
Ported factory airbox

This is a cheap man’s version of performance
All parts were
Used (except for what went into the engine)
Exhaust was built from 97 explorer and v8 mustang bits by previous owner

The exhaust is dual 2.25” pipes
With dual mustang mufflers
A small crossover near the t case
Shotgun style side exit

It sounds like a cobra mustang
Naturally aspirated
It has a nice rumble to it and some drone, but the drone quiets down at speed which is good
Otherwise it would be too loud for my taste/use with the side exit
With the 5 speed transmission and 4.10 gears it is fun to drive

The best part is I did not have to build this exhaust,
Just the truck around it hahahaha

This is how I normally setup most truxks we convert to 5.0 here
This is how my bronco has been plumbed since 2005
Dual 2.5 in single 3” out muffler
I have used many different brands over the years flowmaster Borla dynomax magnaflow flow pro and many no name cheapos

This 05 trac is using a flowmaster from summit around $75
Simple from the stock downpipes back, one pipe remains straight, one gets a link to clear crossmember (rangers and tracs) have crossmember explorers not so much

Borla is my favorite exhaust
Maker, high quality and un matched sound.
On the advice of a good friend, I’ve have been using spintec mufflers recently I really like them, very stout great performance and sound

We retained the 2005 tailpipe because it is already 2.5” and was redone recently
5.0 is stock
4406m t case
Sounds great! Good torque

I'm running the torque monster headers with Gibson. 2in 1 exhaust, which is 2.5 out to tail pipe. I want to do rear cat, delete and do exhaust with borla mufflers.
