so, i have the 93 sport that was built too close to calif. has the cam sensor at the rear of the block. throwing intermittent codes that indicate that the sensor is sending incorrect info (away from the car at the moment so can’t give you the code). my question; can this sensor be disconnected and a pcm from 93 exp that didn’t have the sensor be swapped in? in nevada, need smog test because i went over the 5k mile limit for a classic car by 100 miles. won’t make that mistake again. sensor is a bxxxxxxch to remove and even worse to replace not to mention the cost. anyone have any experience with this? btw, this sensor is specific to the 93, maybe the 92 but not the 94. 94 sensor is easier to r&r and cheaper also.

Yes you can use a 93 pcm from a non CA truck will not have the cam sensor.
IN 94+ they all had it
93 is a good year, no EGR, no cam synchro except for CA emissions vehicles

so that’s a help if i can get a pcm for a non-ca ex, 93. apparently just leave the cam sensor disconnected? no codes because of this?
thanks to those who gave the reference to previous threads. i had read some but knew that the 93 was a special case and hoped that the pcm change would work since the car is not a calif vehicle. let me know if i’m missing something. thanks again

correct leave it disconnected, no codes will occur because the other PCM never had a sensor there

Does your 93 have EGR? I don't think they did even with CA emissions, but I have to ask it has been years since I messed with a Gen i

there maybe other slight changes
Bascially a 93 with ca emissions is almost identical to a 94, which all had the cam sensor and EGR (I believe)

don't recall seeing the egr though i was never looking for it. if i can, i do want to go the pcm way and not have to hassle with the cam sensor every again. we'll see what happens when i put the scanner on it. if it doesn't work it'll be no more than what i'm looking at at the moment.
thanks for the response.

Just FYI ... My 93 Sport 4x4 is CA emissions and has both the cam sensor at the rear and EGR

Hold up! 93 is a bastage year.

Could be one of 5 possible configs. With auto or manual makes it 10,( at least) Best to fix cam sensor, otherwise you'll be swapping harnesses, and, patching up O2 sensor holes.
93 could be either batch fire or sequential fire injection, may have 1, 2, or even 3 O2 sensors, might or might not have egr. there is more. I went thru this on our 93. It had all the ca stuff, but no wired cam sensor. 3o2sensors, and sequential injection. Also had no egr. Wierd.

I think I tried 3 pcms and countless harnesses ( thanks for all the help!!) To get it sorted for my config.

glad i checked back. so turdle, looks like the best way is to just replace the original which is unique for 93, the 94 and up is a different synchronizer.
tried to find the discussion on installing it but it seems to be deleted.
thx for all the help
