2001 XLT D44-SAS

Thanks Robb, I was looking at a couple of pictures and they weren't all that clear, it was a little hard to tell.

Thought I'd post a couple of pics of the adapters.

looking good, mind if i ask where'd you get the adapters and how much? has anyone who's done a SAS ever considered just buying one adapter, having a 5 on 5.5 spare, that way if you got a flat in the rear you just throw the adapter on before the spare?

I realize idealy that adapters work as spacers as well and make the width match up or at least close, but couldn't what I'm thinking work too or would the lugs need to be trimmed or something?

yeah, I think what you're saying would work nick, but it's probably just more convenient to buy 2 and have them on there all the time with 4 rims of the same lug patter instead of having to switch one around everytime

The D44 that I'm putting on started out 6-5.5, the Bronco knuckles gave me 5-5.5, the Ford 8.8 is 5-4.5.

Carrying the adapter would be ok, but then the spare would have to be 5-5.5.

I think it's better to put on the adapters, widen the rear track and run with one rim all around.

I just ordered a proportioning valve for the rear brakes. Everything I'm reading is telling me that's the way to go.

I was wondering those of you that've done the SOA in the rear, what size brake lines did you use to extend them?

I'm thinking Stainless Steel, probably about 22" for the rear???

What did you guys use for the front? How many inches? Single split on the axle or dual lines? I'm thinking to split it on the axle.

Thanks!

Oh, yeah I found some 37x13x15 TSL/Boggers for $219 each, and they had the 36x12.50x15 Super Swamper Radials for $179, I'm almost think hell that's almost my rims right there in the difference! Probably a slightly better turning radius too...

I dont know about boggers in NYC, I dont think thats a good idea. The radials would be a better choice.

yeah, i'd say that 36s are plenty big and the price difference is pretty substantial...so i'd go with the super swampers too

The only problem I've got with the 36x12.50 SS Radials is the tread width is only 9", I've got 8-1/2" on the 31x10.50s I've got now.

I was looking for a bigger footprint and the Boggers give you 12.2" tread width, that's a serious difference and the tread on them is sweet/functional.

What's wrong with the Boggers in the city, I've read a few reviews here and there on the Internet that all raved about the Boggers. They're not the greatest for DD-street driving, but I've read they have decent manners...just don't take a bumpy curve too quick with'em.

My only worry is how bad the turning radius will be with the 37s. In other words how much am I going to lose to keep them from rubbing...

Well boggers are softer tires and are prone to chipping and breaking off clumps. And with the streets here I would tend to think they would just eat the tires up. I dont know if boggers are radial or not but if they arent then you will have to deal with flat spots in the tires when you drive it after its parked, and that makes for one shaky ride.

They're not radials, and that's the first time I've heard of them chipping or breaking off.

I read they'll get flat spots that'll round out after about a mile...but I haven't heard (read) anything too bad about them on the street.

I guess I'm going to look at the radials.

The flat spotting is liveable. You get used to it. After a mile or so its gone. The problem with boggers and street duty is the EXTREME wear. They wont last anytime. On top of wearing like a Formula One tire, they also chunk and occasionally throw lugs. Dont expect much more than 10k miles on the street.

I would have to agree with james t on this subject.
you would be much better off w/ the radials

I'm looking for something with a WIDE footprint. The Boggers, aside from being one hell of a monstrous looking tire, at 13" wide they give a 12.2 tread width. The 12.50s all seem to be about 9" wide tread, the 10.50s I got on there now are 8-1/2". I'd really rather not do a 14.50 which is the next step up (wider) from the 12.50.

I'm going to look around at the specs for some radials and see if I can find anything that looks good.

I know the radials would give a better ride and I know they're better on the suspension, but I've never really had a problem with the way bias ply tires ride.

You guys are the first I'm hearing about the Boggers throwing chunks...believe me I've been reading a lot of reviews and comments about them on sites all over the place and this is the first I'm hearing about it.

Thanks for the info!

Most guys who run boggers have mainly offroad rigs that dont see much/if any street duty. Over the years ive seen 3 different guys at work run them on the street, and all 3 had the same outcome. I wish i would have got a pic of the last one... Dodge on 35x15's.... they were less than a year old and looked like they were about to show cord any day. It was also missing a half a lug here and there.

Alright, alright already! You're making me cry here- I was looking forward to running those damn Boggers! They've got to be the sweetest looking tires I've ever seen.

I could live with about a year of life.

I was looking at the IROKs, they don't look half bad...

The only problem I have is that when you look at the specs on most of these tires they're nothing like what you end up with.

I'm trying to find something that comes close to what the size states. I know the Cross section and height aren't going to be perfect, but damn- most of the tires I've been looking at 12.50s end up at about 9" tread. I'm looking for a wider footprint, but having a hard time finding it.

If I coud find a 36x12.50x15 that actually almost measured that I'd buy it provided the tread had a decent pattern.

There are some Parnelli Jones tires that are pretty close to what actual size they are. No 36 though.

35/12.50/15 overall Diameter=35.1 Cross Section=13.10

If you want your tires to look wide, use as wide of a rim as you can, like a 15X10 with 12.5" wide tire.

I was planning on using a 15x10 w/3-3/4" backspacing.

Even on a 10" rim they still end up with about 9" tread. I'm looking more for a tire that'll put rubber on the ground as opposed to a wide appearance.

Let the air out, that helps ;)

Considering where I'm at and that I'd have to special order anything over a 31, I seriously don't want to be disappointed when I pick them up. The closest place to me that actually stocks anything in 35s or bigger is in Stewartsville, NJ- right near PA. We're talking a healthy drive.

This is what I'm talking about, these are the same size tire and they're worlds apart...
