That's nicely done as well.

What are you guys using wires for? Bluetooth does everything I need it to.

Yeah really. Don't need your phone or Ipod on an exterior mount as everything is viewable and controlled from the MFT screen. I keep my iPod in the cubby and is out of sight of thieves!

I did mine with the rat tail file method....It worked out fine. A dremel would also work, just don't let it get away from you....best regards Plum

The easy solution for those that do not have the cut-out is to simply use a flat USB cable for charging your phone etc. The one I use can retract as well and I can easily close the door even with the cable sticking out. No need to use a drill or file that could end up looking like a hack job. They only cost a couple of bucks...

True...with my cables hooked up (either USB or 12VDC outlet), I can easily stow my ipod and phone in the cubby with the door closed!

Nicely done anonymous. Fortunately mine came with the cable notch--that is my teenage daughters USB to cell phone life line.

OCD prevails again. Strange that mine is a '13 Limited (made 4-13) and yours is a '14 Limited without the cable notch.

I did mime so I could charge my phone. I have had trouble with aftermarket usb cords with my phones and even get a phone message on the screen saying please use factory usb cord. The flat ones have failed on me in the past. I also like keeping up with the new year to year changes when I see something I like....

Next, have you noticed the new models have the extra side cargo area light? I like that too. Might be my next little project.

I have a build date of 04/13 and I have it...2013 XLT...

Sorry that's not my vehicle. I just posted the pic the original poster was trying to post.

Hey, THANK YOU "anonymous" for posting my photo, much appreciated!
BTW, I needed that "cut-out" for my radar detector cord that goes behind the glovebox and inside the right A-pillar, (didn't want to cut into any wiring or mess with the rearview mirror.)

Ah, makes sense now grrtrainman.

Have you looked into any of the stealthcord options. It uses the harness that plugs into the back of the mirror to draw power for the detector. Just coming to Ford from GM so not sure if the Ford even has it available on the back like most GM vehicles.

Also, do you run Waze on your smartphone? It's a great application that will alert you of police or any other road hazard on your route. It works really well.

anonymous:

I had thought about that current draw from the back of the mirror but couldn't see any holes back there. Also, get this, I don't HAVE a "smart phone", just a Trac Phone! Can you believe it ??? !!!

Media Hub Cable Cut out in Center Console

Ok, finished up adding the media hub cable cut out in the center console last night. Turned out great!

I just bought a dremel... I am going to make the openings in the lid though ;) one on each side, half circles!! What do you think?

No media hub cut-out? No problem. I made my own.
Take a fine rat tail round file and file the DOOR edge.
Make sure you mask off all the surrounding area so you don’t end up scratching or whacking anything. Take your time. File away until the cord has plenty of clearance and the door closes easily. My cut-out came out fine and smooth. Simple job. Looks “factory”. Problem solved. Total cost : $ 00.00 .

I am attempting a link to a photo.

No luck. Sorry. Not working.

Awesome idea about the file! I have that file too. I’d like to remove the lid though. Is there a way to get the lid off without removing the whole center console?

All three outlets are being used... an Uber sign plugs into the lighter, one usb keeps my phone charged and plays music too, the other usb is for the iPad on the back of my headrest for passengers to enjoy selecting music. Even then I need to use the lighter outlet to super charge my phone (charges so much faster than through usb)

They are 12V power points, not light outlets.;)
