2015 Explorer - Speculation / Fact

I speculate the 2017 model year will have all new electrical architecture because its affecting what we can and cant do with upcoming police vehicle projects.

A good bet would be that's the same year the Explorer gets a new look as apposed to a "Freshening"

If you look at the Taurus it got a "Freshening" for 2013 with new front and rear clip, new wheels, and couple new options.

I changed it is that better?

Its simply based on the fact that as we integrate new technology with the Interceptor program we are sometimes limited by the existing electrical architecture. But then sometimes were are told that our ideas are something they may be able to support with the 2017 architecture.

Things like using the OEM lane keep camera as part of an OEM Interceptor video package that would integrate with existing aftermarket video systems. Using the OEM mounted lane keep camera and OEM mounted reverse camera with software that would turn them both on and record video when the vehicle's emergency equipment is activated.

The OEM camera's are high quality and go through rigours testing standards. Anyone thats used lane keep knows how good it works.

We already use the existing reverse sensors to detect person approaching from the rear in certain circumstances.

The goal is to use OEM features for a police specific purpose.

Here's a shot of the new Interceptor Utility built in screen as a result of Ford partnering with aftermarket vendors Havis and Lectronix

Very nice. Better than juggling a laptop. Is that what you use for your CPIC queries?

LAPD was the agency that asked for this and will be field testing in 2014. The idea is to replace the laptop but I don't see it happening because all Police software is designed for landscape mode and that screen requires Portrait mode only.

The UAE is also looking at a large order of these.

They buy Interceptor Utility's by the 1000's

Does anyone know that 2015 Explorer will be a complete redesign?

As mentioned in my PM, I have merged your thread with this existing one.

I was reffering to Lewisra's comment about his sources, not yours. I know you have good info.

Ok I will calm down then....LOL!

i imagine that keyboard is wireless and can be easily moved? if not, i couldnt imagine having to write a lengthy narrative in that position. while that set up looks nice, its hard to beat the mobility of an old fashioned (hard to believe its old fashioned lol) laptop.

Seems like there should be news soon on the 2015's... Order banks open on March 15 and last day to order a 2014 is March 14. My dealer say he typically gets info a couple of weeks prior to the order banks opening...

Only thing different is new colors and couple features on the Sport.

I think a 'refresh' would involve more than new colours. I'm thinking it will have the same climate knob controls that the 2015 F150 has. I have also read some reports that feel the tail lights and front lights and grille may be changed.

Not to be rude but I stand by my statement. According to the order guide anyway.

Well it is speculation on my part from everything I've read. I don't think any of the items I mentioned would be shown in an order guide since they would be considered changes to the body style and would be on all models. They wouldn't be something you could order.
I guess we will have to wait and see when Ford releases actual pictures of it.
