410Custom's builds a 2007 Ranger V8 - custom truck build - Project "Ranger Premier"

That's the first thing I thought too! and Brett lol
02?-07 all same sending unit

edit: wrong! I learned a few days later …If I search rockauto for a 05 and a 07 ranger fuel pump and sending unit they offer me the same part
Numbers) however the parts stores and ford clearly show them as different parts

I using a 05 cluster in a 07 truck with a 07 dash and 07 wiring harness. I ran a new wire, I tried a different ground, reversing polarity, checked continuity, ran my own leads to bypass harness...... same result. There is no anti slosh module on these its a microprocessor....it is kind of neat actually you can watch it take a "sample" about every minute....
55 ohm empty 230 full

I put 5 gallons of fresh fuel in it a few months ago when I started driving it, then during test drive on Wend i went to the fuel pump figured I would get as much fresh in there as I can...... I never could have foreseen this issue!
I am lucky I have:
05 ranger for parts
and a 04 mazda cluster in my hand already loose. I am headed to the truck this am...we are working on the suspension
Eddie can help me fix all this crap Saturday and Sunday
The good news is up to 70 mph no noises, no vibes, no shimmy no shakes.......the shifts are "positive' but not harsh....... Brett built a wicked good transmission here thus far, he has dialed in his 4r70w "recipe"
Im planning to put about 200 miles on it this weekend, I can film, Eddie can drive!

The 360 degree camera system is next.... oh joy! The instructions do not match the product and the wiring is not straight forward, its like a mish mash of parts and some things lost in translation. The way they have it setup the rear camera only gets power in reverse, that does not work for a 360 degree birdseye setup....... plus when you put in R it triggers the R camera, with the turn signals it triggers the screen to ajoining side camera.... that's all well and good except THEY ARE MISSING A POWER WIRE TO THE REAR CAMERA and the instructions show a different wiring harness altogether..only provide one trigger wire for the dvd player......more on this later

Learned a lot today
Like shocks are not sent charged with nitrogen??
Nobody told me! Lol I’m probably just expected to know…Fun.. they are now all 6 kings brought up to 200psi with the shafts extended.

The front coilover were adjusted for ride height the difference is awesome… now she sits like a proper 6” lifted ranger, sorry rangerx no more extreme rake

The list of bugs to fix is shorter and can be handled in a weekend I hope

Here we go
Eddie coming into town tonight. I pick him up in the am and then he gets to see his truck!!
I’ve logged about 150 miles or so… she is solid…. I want to keep it

Well… what a day!
I think he likes it

Actually I think this is why you build trucks like this for people. I think Eddie appreciates the build more than anyone I have built a “dream truck” for. Patient, passionate, appreciative and a ranger dude all the way to the core (in this for all the right reasons)
I am happy to do it! The truck is solid
Eddie is now part of the North Idaho ranger family… he knows what I mean ;)

This truck had a hard life before it came here
It has earned its mods
She is near and dear to his family and so I am glad I was able to help make his dreams come true and I’m glad we get to spend this time together in the shop swapping stories. Make this all worth while

You guys should have seen his happiness when Eddie fired her up for the first time.
I think it was 3-4 hours before he even sat in the drivers seat…spent the morning just taking it all in.
It was awesome. I got video of that moment.

He drove it twice today

I knocked many things off the list, basically get the rear camera working and then “full send!!!
Tomorrow back at it, few final checks, some driving, an oil change and then… hotrod 1/2 ton v8 ranger ready for service

I Figured out the fuel gauge
2007 and 2005 rangers indeed to use different fuel senders. So to fix our gage we need to install a 05 sender…

IMG_2373.jpeg

New “graphite” center console bit installed, the silver had to go… Eddie brought a few parts with him so I’m installing what I can

Tons of pics and some vids coming
For now just a couple of teasers

Okay okay just one video

@410Fortune I like it when my customers end up being like "Eddie" has been through the whole process.
I'm glad that you figured out the fuel sending unit. Does the '07 sender work backwards from the '05?

yes, so back in the early days (as I am sure you know) high ohms at the gauge was empty....then in like 86 they changed it low ohms was empty and now we are back in 07 to high omh is empty
so since i cannot make a 07 cluster work in this truck and we must stick with a 04-06 cluster, we will raise the bed and install a sender from a 04 (i have 04 mazda for parts). This may have to wait until the next visit because it would be a good time to install a new bosch pump as well

eddie will make a list of things that need to be fixed. He can drive her back out here and we can fix it over a long weekend (Another one!)

I'm up early....got some parts to pull and some research to do and then Ill head over there and fix the camera system, button up the interior...then more test drives :)

Did you see the video? make me happy

Yes, on the video. Now for a trail video, ha ha ha.
Yesterday, the thought of the bed coming back off crossed my mind.
In the meantime, if Eddie keeps it half full, he should be ok? Does that mean that the tank is half full or half empty?:shifty:

E is for Enough
F is for ****ed
the little yellow fuel light and the check gauge light is to congratulate you for filling your tank!

Great rig! So happy for Eddie. Looks super sharp and a dream Ranger!

there's only two times you'll know the exact volume of liquid in a tank.

Eddie will love that truck no doubt, congrats and enjoy driving it a lot.

The fuel gauge is minor, he'll just watch the trip odometer carefully and fill up when it's over 150-200 miles. I drove one of my old Crown Vics for year with a bad fuel gauge, for work. I just kept up with how far I drove on a full tank, and filled it before it got to 200.

That would be a fun truck to drive down the dirt roads around Mohave County. I routinely drive faster on dirt than pavement in the Explorer. That truck, with the 5.0 and go fast suspension would be fun.

@410Fortune Congratulations, well done! That thing is a beaut. The pains are always worth the smiles on a project like this. It's like watching a kid on Christmas morning.

Love the sound, and video!

The fuel gauge in my '02 isn't truly accurate, but I know how to read it and use the trip odometer almost as much as the fuel gauge. Eddie's going to enjoy this truck so much that the real danger is in him having so much fun that he forgets to stop for gas.

Bye bye blue! She will be missed
But man oh man did we make Eddie happy ;)

Thanks you guys!!! Thanks for hanging in there with us
This truck build has only just begun
Your praise means a lot, we spoke a lot about the explorer forum and ranger forum families this weekend
That’s what we are one big happy family of oldschool enthusiast who know better then to build a Jeep or yota lol lol

He is half way home only a few issues
I flexed the truck out a bit for him today so he could see the rear locker and low range and watch the suspension work
I can’t wait to see those videos
She handles the road and the off road that is for sure

However the drivers RCV axle is slinging grease … no biggie I’m sure they will warranty no problem! Insert Cringe
