They came with 4 cats. 2 rear and 2 upstream with oxygen sensors monitoring them. There was one resonator and one muffler. Check my youtube channel for videos demonstrating my setup. http://www.youtube.com/user/TekMan05?feature=mhum

I removed the rear cats with a dual in/out Flowmaster muffler with 2.5'' piping back. Also where the cats are is galvanized piping in its place with caps I can have on or off. It adds more of a nasty louder sound getting it closer to a open headers sound. Eventually I may have to modify the dumps when I plan on installing high flow cats in the front and an X-pipe somewhere ralong the mid pipe area.

thanks for the info...i think with that cap that when you open it its just like a big exhaust leak...you are most likely losing power....i know a website that sells a electric exhaust cutout that would be way better

I've driven it with and without and the difference in power is minuscule to no difference in feel at all. I ran 16.39 at the track with it like although next time I'll experiment with it.

Bad news Can no longer buy TORQUE MONSTER HEADERS He has the business for sale. HOPE SOMEONE BUYS IT SOON I NEED A SET

wow, that is bad news

I agree that it is bad (and sad) news, but who could blame him for winding down this business? Frankly, as a finance professional, I'm surprised he kept in business as long as he did. Think about it, a niche product catering to a very narrow population of vehicle. Such a small percentage of owners would consider buying the headers anyhow. The 5.0 Explorer hasn't been available for over a decade and wasn't a big seller vis a vis the SOHC V6 anyhow. Cash for clunkers wiped out a lot of the 302s too.

There can't be a lot of money in these headers. I'd be amazed if anyone buys the business. Perhaps the design, some materials and some tooling, but I can't see the business being worth much. Any smart businessman would just shut it down and move on. Sounds like that's what Bob is doing.

It makes those of us with the headers having a collector's item. This news just improved the resale market significantly, but I'm not selling.

Yeah, what resale market? Now that there will probably be no more made, I doubt many of us with them would ever sell them.

Let me rephrase, if we were to sell, the price we could ask for them is tied to supply and demand. Now that there is no supply, all things equal, the asking price for a used pair just went up. :D

I bought a 98 X with the 5.0, and I need advice for an exhaust fix. The previous owner just cut off the stock pipes under the rear seats and threw dual cherry bombs on the remainder of the pipes, quite the hack job. I live in Maine, and our "No louder than stock by police officers discretion" law limits my options. All I want is a decent tone that is just barely noticeable and won't attract much attention at idle or under light acceleration. What do you guys think I should do? Headers and cats are all stock.

50 series dual in/ single out flowmaster muffler

Cherry Bomb Vortex muffler with 2 in 1 out, it's their quietest muffler next to an old turbo style muffler. Depending on your laws, the turbo muffler is the closest to stock in loudness, the Vortex is one step higher.

Stock pipes are 2.25" at the cats, so for one tailpipe I'd do 2.5" if you can have that slightly higher level of sound, 2.25" if they are very strict.

I just checked his site as I have been trying to save to buy a set! That sucks! If I cant buy the TMs I'm selling my expo!

Thanks for the replys, I looked the Maine State law up, and it has been altered to say that you may be cited if a police officer believes that your engine or exhaust is louder than stock and if you choose to contest the citation in court, the officer needs to prove nothing. It is the responsibility of the offender to prove to the courts satisfaction that their exhaust is below 95 dB. Thoughts? And does anyone know where I can hear sound clips of the dual-in, single-out flowmaster 50 series on a 5.0 X?

^^link doesn't work... Well kinda. It brought me straight to the clip of a momma cat hugging it baby kitten that went viral yesterday... :p: I searched Youtube with every possible search term I could use to narrow it down, but couldn't find what I was looking for.

Sorry I tried linking a vid from my phone. Here's 'some early vid clips of mine back in 2008 when I still had all 4 cats just with the 50 series muffler and torque monster headers.

Is torque monster done or not?

I went back to his site and it doesnt say anything about the company being for sale or the headers being unavailable?

The checkout page even opens up?

Guess I'll try calling.

I happen to be watching Gears on Saturday and the sponsor of the show was Heart Throb Exhaust Manufacture. Anyone ever hear of them or actually used there products? A tour of their manufacturing plant was pretty impressive and they claim to outflow most competitors and are claiming usable HP gains where others are not. Heart Throb also states that they build headers (even one offs) and complete exhaust set-ups from cat back or header back, with either a H-Pipe or X-Pipe, all mandrel bends. But that most of their gains on the new 11 Mustang that they showed was by using a H-Pipe over a X-Pipe, and gain of 43hp. Pretty impressive if you ask me, but I never dealt or seen their product before that show.

Flowmaster dual exhaust is what I got now, but was thinking on giving them a shot. They make chambered and glass-pack style mufflers. The price's are pretty impressive over Flowmaster, and others.

I expect to pay, and I do not mind paying for a quality item. My main concern or question is has anyone ever heard or dealt with this company. Stacy David on Gears was promoting them and did the walk thru of the plant, and the engineering or manufacturing side looked top notch and it is family owned for over 40 yrs. So I guess I will give them a shout out and see how it works out in the end.

TekMan - Thanks for posting those clips. I actually saw clips of your X before when I first bought mine and was surfing Youtube. I love the sound you get with your dual-in/dual-out 40 series. I wish I didn't have to worry about these silly laws we get up here.

And on the subject of headers, now that Torque Monster is out, what is the next best set of headers you can purchase for a 2nd gen X?
