I replace my coils for the reasons that you(^) mentioned as well as at the time I was experiencing the "ghost" coil misfire/malfunction check engine codethat is associated with late model 5.0l x/mountys so I replaced the coils in attempts to fix the problem soon after I learned of the "ghost" code.

I found with the Accel I gained a little better idle and a small change in throttle response. Now granted I changed the plugs and wires at the same time but the improvement was more than what I have experienced with performance plug and wire replacement in the past on other applications. Improved idle is proven to aid in increased mpg another reason I went to aftermarket coils.
