so this weekend was supposed to be the weekend that the project was fnally finished. my friend came to my house with $1000s worth of tools and his 10 years of Atech experience thinking "this will be a 2-3 hour job to get the engine out" and "you are an amature". we started friday night for a few hours... then went and had too many drinks and got up around 10am went to walmart and the parts store to pick up some stuff and back home to start working about 4pm until 12amsunday... found that the oil pump was seized in the new engine and twisted the pump driveshaft and it fell into the block... remvoed with no visible damage, and went to advance because they were the only ppl with a stock oil pump that was open at 8pm... side note: at advance there was a carshow and we spotted a REAL 289 Shelby Cobra... worked until 12a then went barhopping in NY to relieve the stress that this POS has put on us... started work again around 3pm after walmart and autozone for tools and food... did not BS much and by 5am this morning we had the motor PULLED OUT!
this thing fought tooth and nail. EVERY bolt was corroded or galled... Matco Impact guns would not budge some of these things... some were so bad we had to cut them off, the top starter bolt had to be ground off and still cracked the ear... 1 intake bolt broke off in the head (anyone got any ideas to remove this without going to the machine shop it is not quite flush... then when we had ALL bolts out and the hoist connected, the engine WOULD NOT SEPARATE FROM THE TRANNY!
i have some lovely video of us trying to free the engine that was taken with my friends phone, we dont have a micro USB here to upload from his phone right now but i will post as soon as we get it...
ill get some pics when my wife gets back with new batteries for my camera... it seems to us that the guy assembling this thing at the factory dipped each and every bolt or stud in salt water before installing it and then sprayed the whole thing in saltwater afterwards for good measure... yay its out.... now to get the new engine assembled and put it back in, unfortunately i have to wait on parts to assemble the new engine so the truck will have to sit a few more weeks:thumbdwn:
