why not get your local exhaust shop to fabricate a snorkel from tube and then have it powdercoated

Well, I can do pipe... but I wanted it to have a nice finished look, like the molded plastic of the safari snorkel.
I've seen too many ugly snorkels with coffee cans on the end of them...

Just a quick question on snorkels. Has anyone ever driven a vehicle before and after install? I ask because it looks like they would severely slow down the air intake thus resulting in a HP loss. I have thought about putting one on after this fun trip, but I just can't justify it is going to cut my HP from what it already is.

I havn't had the experience, but there'd be alot of cool air up there, I'd assume you'd have no power loss...

My Crazy Idea for a Snokel.

I saw somewhere on this site, someone cut holes in his hood for drop in air scoops. It looked really good. I was thinking a person could do something like that for a functioning ram air. Then when you are offroading you have some type of cover that either bolts on or uses magnets and extends higher for a snorkel. I know it is a crazy idea but I thought I would through it out there.

By the way, how does a Ram Air system keep the water out when it is raining?:scratch:

Yeah, dunno, I've never really thought of a hood scoop as a good offroad upgrade.... I agree, dense foam would choke off the intake,
I'm not sure how people would protect against water getting in.

I'm watching a safari snorkel head right now on ebay, which filters water out the sides, and a bunch of mandrel bends,
I think I'm going to make my own, and give it a rynoliner style coating.

That would look good, but I am not willing to cut my side panels to do something like that. For some reason I want to cut my hood though.:scratch:

To each their own I guess... but moving the intake to the hood sure wouldn't help you if you had water splash onto it.
I myself want it as high as possible.

The "hood scoop" one, was originally done by glfredrick which now belongs to jman689. I think he replaced the hood also?

I've driven my dad's Rover with an ARB snorkel and I couldn't even tell it was there.

he has some trails near his house, , but i on the other hand have an almost unlimited supply of logging roads they no longer use, they go all over the place and offer some challenging terrain if you venture off of them a bit,

Yup, plenty to do north of the border, we've got quite a bit of logging areas on the east coast as well.
We should hook up a trail ride sometime... get some people from the coast, and ontario... meet half way in quebec... LOL
And yes... I realize quebec is nowhere near half way in between.

Yeah, I just moved from calgary to NB a couple years ago... quite the drive.

We have plenty of public land around here but they are very protective about it. If they catch you in an off limits area they are very harsh. There has been a recent contraversy with an environmental group trying to shut off beach access to vehicles on the North Carolina coast.

Yeah, we have alot of beach around here as well, being on the coast... but not much of it is sandy, it's mostly rocks...

Never heard of that... not sure how it would work...
I assume you'd have a plate or something to plug the hole in the fender.
