Alternating Turn Signals

I am worried that will cause a fuse blowout after a while, or premature flasher wearout....is the flasher flashing slower than usual now?

It's flashing at the same frequence as it always has.

Husky, you ran outta bandwith on geocities... email the movies to me, I'll host 'em

Its what you call "Rocket Surgery". Very intense.
Your side marker Usually doesnt blink w/turnsignals.
By moving one wire it will.
With lights on, it blinks alternatingly from the TS.
With lights off " " with " " .

ok, I am confused, I dont have a first gen... here is a pic of one though:
pt0001a.jpg

the driver's side lights are setup like so, right?(stock)
* = turn signal
# =corner
_ = headlight

_*
*#

with the two *s blinking...
is that correct?

if so, how come in the movie it looks like there are only two different bulbs flashing and not 3? It looks to me like it is just alternating between *#, with the vertical turn signal doing nothing?

The corner is in the same lens as the running light (blinker). The lens next to the headlight is just a lens, it has no light.

OOOHHH..... it all makes sense now.
I thought that the side one was a light...

So... is it at all possible to do this w/ 2nd gen explorers?

they have it setup
*=turning signal
#=corner
_=headlight

*#
_*

It's possible with any year, just take the ground from the light that doesn't blink, tap it into the wire that does blink (green w/ blue stripe on first gen), and there you go.

i haven't had a chance to play with mine some more yet...anyone with a second gen get it right?

I did it sucessfully on my 99. You cut the black wire on the corner lamp, take the end that goes to the corner bulb and splice it into the green(driver's side) or the white(passenger side). It doesn't matter which turn signal bulb you use, but I used the bottom one because I would use less wire that way. That is all there is to it.

works normally? just blinks now?

So the side marker light still stays on constant when the signals are off?

Husky - how come you had to turn on the parking lights for the signals to alternate? shouldn't they both work when you just have the blinker on?

I wish you had posted that before I did mine, because I just kinda guessed what wires to cut and splice, but it worked out just fine. It is a great explanation and will help anyone out who wants to do this mod, and also onderstand how it works.

/sport/: the lights work normal, just alternate when the blinker is on?

The parking lights work normal when on.
All three bulbs flash as a turn signal when parking lights are off, but when parking lights are switched on, turn signals alternate (little bulb is on when the other two are off, and vise versa). Try it for yourself, it is really easy and looks cool.:cool:
