Another OHV M90 build

No, I didn't order the bolts.
Do you need a set off of a ohv? If so, Id trade you. If not, I better head to a Ford dealer and get some ordered.

I wouldnt see why the ohv pan wont fit the sohc with the ohv pickup and bolts. Same pan gasket.

No biggie, if it doesn't fit the sohc, I will need to find Tim a sohc pan. I certainly wouldn't leave the sohc motor with its pants down.

main cap stud girdle.

It states here that to use this on an sohc, you need to use an ohv oil pan.

There's the answer, but the main bolts will have to be switched out.

It also says modifications to the pan needs to be made.don't know if that's because of the girdle or because the pan difference.i know it will bolt up but will it clear every thing inside.isn't there a balance shaft in the bottom of a sohc motor and is the crank and caps the same?all that i don't know.like i said it should fit,but will everything clear.cant say yes for 100%.let me text my buddy,he knows just about EVERYTHING about a sohc.what year did the pan come off from and is it a 4x4 model or 4x2?

It came out of a 98 4x4, Tims truck's old motor

I have an extra sohc pan with some chewed up threads on where the trans mounts if you need it. It's in my aluminum scrap pile so let me know, it can be yours for $5+ shipping

I think we're going to be okay. I hope we know for sure by the end of the month.

He was the guy i was talking about.said it would fit but to put a ohv pan on a sohc motor with out a girdle would not be smart.it will fit but doesn't suggest you run it with it on there.he knows more about sohc than anyone i know so i wouldn't suggest you run a sohc without a girdle of some type also.

not really worried about running the motor with a OHV pan on it. that motor will prob sit in my shed for years (i have another sohc motor in a parts truck that still runs as well). if i ever do need that motor, chances are it will be replacing another sohc motor anyways, so i can always grab the pan and bolts from the motor it will be replacing. for the moment, using my pan from evils original motor is just easier because its out of the truck, on a stand taking space up in the shed. that and, if for what ever reason we need something else for dons truck, we can run and grab it so we can get his back on the road, laying rubber and scaring the hell out of soccer mom blazers.

Really, how much motor do you see when its in the truck?
depends on how many accessories you remove to gut the engine bay lol. mines pretty visible. when im done with it this next time, even more will be in view

good point Xeek!

Im leaving all accessories. I do want to paint things up and make them pretty, and reduce risk of rust. A buddy just had to replace an oil pan in his car because it was rusting thru. Sound odd? Does to me too. Im still not sure I believe it.

Still a good idea to clean the parts up and paint. I'tt try to head over to Tims and pick up his pan this week so I can clean it up over the weekend. I painted the timing cover and installed the new waterpump yesterday.

Installed the new water pump?do you have the new block back from the machine shop already?

No, but I had stripped the motor, and had the old water pump still attached to the timing cover in the garage. I cleaned all the gunk out of the inside of the timing cover, removed the old water pump and painted up the cover.
I hung on to crap like the old cam, timing chain, etc. No point in taking any of that stuff to the machine shop.

edit: the water pump is installed on the timing cover, but the timing cover has no block to attach to yet.
edit 2: Im going to weenie out and get the machine shop to install the new crank and pistons. I want them to plastguage the bearings and make sure clearances are good. Their rates are pretty reasonable, and if I can reduce risk of having a bad motor, I want to.

don, did you want any of the brackets from the donor truck? only reason why i ask is if you wan to paint them up as well.

I think that might be a good idea. I can give then a light sand and paint them up ahead of time.

Thanks!

Lol gotca.totally agree.if their prices are good let them do as much work as they can.

I have questions on water/meth injection. Its the only way I can think of lowering my iat's (Other than a body lift, or cutting my hood and fabbing a hood scoop to make room for a modded M90 mount that has an intercooler).

Could I just plumb in to my existing windshield washer fluid tank and use it for dual purpose?
What kind of a controller would be used? Something boost sensing?

I have no idea about doing this. It might be worth doing though.

I would have been running w/m from the start.i would just use its own container for it and have it off a boost switch.

You just had to throw that in there didn't you. :D

Yes, I have the spot for my intake for a injector. I'll start looking at how I can do this.

They are very easy to set up!!if you cant intercool w/m is only other option.im going to be running a wet nos kit with w/m as the fuel side instead of gas.its going to run off a boost switch.ill leave the nos tank off till i need it but run w/m all the time.im going to set it to kick on at 6lbs.

just a update on me,i got my set of street tires today and if i can get them mounted im going to dyno sat.its annual dyno day at my shop.my tires alone weigh 109lbs and my new street tires weigh 50lbs,plus the rims i run now are 15x10 & new ones are 15x7.the new tires are 33x12.50 street .should add ALOT of hp back and increase my 1/4 by alot.im hoping to see 280hp this weekend.especially now i got belt slip fixed and a good alternator.

I'm looking forward to seeing some new dyno numbers.

I'm looking for a pump now. I have to wonder how a diaphragm pump will hold up thru one of our winters.

Pretty easy to do though, your right. Nozzle, pump, holding tank, and hobbs pressure switch. A bit of wiring, and its done. Its all about finding a good pump.
