Another OHV M90 build

true true so when he post his ait before charger they should be very close to ambient then, given a degree or two,or depends where he is pulling air from and if he is moving or not

Where his air filter is located plays a huge part in whether he will see near ambient IAT's or not while still naturally aspirated.

Yup, just checked.
Very close to ambient air temp. When the trucks hot, and moving anything over 5 mph, I have ambient air temps for iat readings.

Hot motor, and not moving is another story. Iat's climb in a hurry.
I have a very basic heat shield seperating the cone filter from the engine bay in stock filter location without the air box.

I moght attempt to use the stock air box (Just opened up more to the front of the motor) with the cone filter after I get the sc working.

How much did it climb? What was ambient?

The ambient went way up at a stop light. I just monitored with an older code reader. I will log and post.

I picked up my throttle body from Tim last night.
Tim did a great job of welding up the the bracket. He explored all kinds of different options for mounting the throttle, but came back to the same solution JD used.
I went for a ride in 'Evil' also. Evil is a strong runner for sure. The V8 in his sport makes for a fun vehicle. The one thing I noticed is that his build is super strong, and Tim isn't worried about breaking anything.

I got to get mine going.

One other thing I noticed last night is that my throttle cable might not be long enough. The new throttle body will be just behind the oil filler tube, quite a way away from the stock location. Also, the heater lines may be in the way

I do see some on-line companies that have custom components and will custom make one as required. Looking at how the factory cable mounts to the firewall, this will be time consuming to get right.

I'd love to pre-plan for this, but I don't know that I can really. Some things are pretty tough to plan for as it may be a non issue anyway.

Intake tubing...also will need modifying as the oil filler neck is in the way. I'm going to go to the hardware store and get some 3 inch flexible pipe to use as a temporary solution. Then, once I can see whats required, I can purchase the proper elbows.

Hey Dono,

Thought I would pop in and mention something fun I ended up dealing with and to my surprise ended up almost hating. The voltage regulator on my alternator started acting flaky when my a/c was pumping. This is turn caused sloppy 3rd to 4th and OD. Turn it off shifts are back to normal, problem? a remaned alternator I had picked up to replace the stock one. Now it could have been the number of extra accessories I have added that made the 130 tap out but it was squealing like a pig at startup and throttle response. Needless to say, I went with Mr. Alternator 240 and problems were solved.

Thanks Phix, Im running a reman now also, so I will watch for this. In thinking how the belt will end up running, I think there will be less contact of the belt on the alternator pulley also.
I just sent a throttle cable off to get 'stretched' as it looks the cable is about 8-10 inches too short when I size up where the throttle body will sit. I'm pretty sure I will be ready to install once this gets back to me. I can hardly wait.

Well to be honest, I don't even run a stock idler pulley anymore. It was creating some drag on the whole system which I think burned out the remaned alt. to be honest. My idler was aftermarket from when underdog performance was still around. All I can say is Curt over at mr. alternator does good work, from the looks of it they just beef up the internals. Possibly better bearings, possibly better impeller? not sure. Though its heavy as hell and compared to the 130, you can tell in weight the stater is much heavier.

good thing you took that one i used for modifying the bracket! gotta love spare parts!!!!

Tim, you were reading my mind!!!!
I was going to pm you a thank you.

any updates?

Nope. Called push-pull.com to see if they had my cable yet. They don't
They are located in California, and I used Canada Post to air the cable to them. Obviously air doesn't mean 'overnight' air.

I'll call them again today and see. I'll have them send the cable back to me a faster way.

This should work out good though. This was the last weekend of the working both nights. Next weekend is one night, then I'm done the weekend thing for a couple of months. I find that working weekends from 8pm to 3am wipes me out for being able to do anything extra on weekends.

Yes, we will be doing paper racing.
There is a place here that has a dyno. $100.00 for 3 pulls. Its a 2 wheel dyno, but I could either do the brown wire mod, or just pull the fuse to my interior light (I found out that one by mistake when I was changing the bulb and popped the fuse).

Even then, apparently all dyno's and manufacturers give different results. Yup, its too bad. It would be fun to do a side by side pull and see who ends up in front. My moneys easily on you, but it would be fun just the same. Only thing I'd have going for me would be the computer tune.

Thanks Tim, I just happened upon a ricer place on Pembina Hwy. I can't even remember the name of it right now. There are probably better places to go than them, so I'll have to research it a bit.

I just spoke with the cable guys,

They don't think they will be able to make something work with the same cable end as the factory cable. This is no big deal, except I will have to figure something else out for my cruise control. Not exactly life or death. I can sort that out after I have a installed M90.

They will have the cable for a few days while they perform their magic, then will send it back to me.

So, in less than 2 weeks I will be doing the install. JD, the race is truly on!
