I am getting ready to order upper control arms for my '98 AWD Mounty. I am going with the one piece Mevotech TTX pieces and I see that the Moog adjustable caster/camber bolt is recommended with the one piece unit. I am at stock height and not running oversized tires but I was planning to get the Moog ±2° (vs the ±1 5/8° kit) since it has the greaseable fitting. Is there any down side to using bolts that have more adjustment than is needed?
On Rockauto, some of the other manufacturers list the same bolt kit for both upper and lower. How many sets do I need to order? If I understand correctly, the top driver side already has adjustable bolts from the factory but I was going to order new anyway just to eliminate some rust.

Edit: Just to be more clear, I am ordering two sets of the bolt sets. One for each upper control arm. Do I need more for the lowers? I do not plan on replacing the lower arms.

You only need the adjustable bolts for the upper control arms
You can use either the 1 degree kit or the two degree kit, the alignment guys will set it where needed

The lower control arms are not mounted on eccentric cams no adjustment down there

Thanks for the reply. Guess I'll be ordering two one-piece upper control arms and two sets of bolt/cam kits.

Those Mevotech TTX control arms are good parts. Besides the green paint they look better than Moog or OEM UCA's. Your alignment shop will appreciate the camber adjustment kits, they make it easier for them to make the adjustment no matter what height you have.

I do wish there was more camber range though, too much positive camber is built into the frame mounts. I wonder if 1/4" longer UCA's would be about the right amount, Jamie do you know how long the BTF arms are versus stock?

I do not know I have never had the btf arms

I can tell you the true travel arms I had to take the heims allllllllll the way in to get even close to 0 camber
Would be nice to have two or three threads available?
We shall see how that works out as the truck starts moving around and I adjust the actual alignment
I am a little worried I would like to be able to set camber and caster while having still some adjustment left over. I may try to get some skinnier “jamb nuts” which may gain me another 1/16”

Yes exactly, I would like the end set points to be in the middle of the adjustment ranges.

I waited and waited to get the correct control arms for wife’s FJ cruiser
Her lift is a mix of drop brackets and spacers I built, stuff I have put together over the years we went from 2” to 3” to 6” it never ends
There are already plenty of heim joints in my life, my Polaris builds have them all over, her FJ rear control arms, all coilover and modern shocks use a spherical bearing I mean this is getting ridiculous. I was spoiled in Colorado. Here in the pnw things rust and if you drive them on winter they get salt bad
So I steer away from heim joints or spherical bearings when I can.
For the FJ finally somebody came out with good upper control arms that ride on bushings yet use a bolt on Escalade upper ball joint… they are for lifted trucks and have built in caster camber correction along with clearance for coilover spring
I think it took 6 or 9 months to get them… Covid

I would
love
To see a similar uca for our rbv w the sla ifs

Okay so does that mean the BTF upper arms use a BJ that isn't good for long term low maintenance, they need regular lubricating, or cleaning and sealing?

I’m not new sure blue torch fab is still around?

Regardless I believe their ranger uca uses a uniball instead of a ball joint

Uniballs are great for allowing more travel then a standard ball joint, but the bearing portion of the uniball is exposed to weather and there is no boot to hold in grease. So they constantly require clean and lube otherwise you will be replacing uniballs
every year
I prefer a good tough ball joint or high angle ball joint via uniball everytime

Camburg has some super high angle ball joints and I believe you can get their uca with these, but when that joint wears out they are $$$$$
The FJ arms I bought use Escalade bj from Moog. I can buy one of those anywhere and because it is made for a half ton 3/4 ton truck they hold up

Four months later and I still haven't even ordered the parts yet. I am preparing to order for real this time. I am looking at Mevotech MK80065 which according to the pictures contain two bolts and nuts, and four plates and washers. (I know I said I was getting the Moog kits before but dang they are expensive.) Do I need one kit or two?

I bought the greaseable Moog ones for my second explorer…and I didn’t end up installing the grease fittings. Can’t remember why, but I think it was an access issue.

Thanks, that makes me feel even better about not getting the Moogs.

On a side note, I googled MK80065 and found another vendor that sells them and it states that they are a "2 corner kit" so I only ordered one kit for both sides.

Those camber kits are made for one upper control arm, they have two bolts etc in each kit. You need two kits for the two UCA's.

BTW, stop using Google, they are a socialist company who tracks everyone and abuses the information, selling it etc. Eliminate all connections with Google, change to DuckDuckGo as a search engine. They don't track any of your information, that's a main attribute of their business.

I will order another set then. I just wasn't sure if only one bolt per side was adjustable. Thanks for the heads up.

Actually, I do use DuckDuckGo and Brave browser. "Google" as a verb has become a generic term for "using an online search engine to find specific information." At least, that's the way I use it.

Sorry but ddg does share info. In fact , if you were to Google it you'd find their lack of transparency statement. It's recent

I'm sorry but the degree of evil is important, google is a well known socialist organization. DDG is not a world wide socialist spreading organization.

I stopped calling searches google in 2020 when it became important to identify very powerful evil people and businesses etc. So I try not to spread bad words, like google, youtube now, facebook, twitter, or air intake for a car example. All automobiles have an air cleaner in them, which is where the air filter goes. It's not an air intake(an intake is bolted to the heads), it is an air cleaner.

It was a joke
