Just out of curiousity, anyone else been using the Royale purple engine oil like I have. I have a friend who first recommended it to me who uses it on his '95 Crown Victoria with 300,000 miles. I like the oil as of now it runs great. I also found out they have transmission fluids for Royale purple as well. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about them?

As I understand it, they have some of the best oil. Ranks up there with Amsoil, Lucas and Mobil 1. I have used it before, only one oil change, but I liked it, I may go back to it with my next oil change.

i also use royal purple. Well at least in my engine and rear diff, they dont have an atf for the mercon 5 specs yet. So i run mobil 1 in my tranny, might have to try thier power steering fluid though. oh and yes it is good stuff rather expensive but good.

It has a good rep, but most people seem to indicate that it is one step below Amsoil. I dunno, as I've never run the two side-by-side. If it is as good as Amsoil, you've got a winner.

My 2007 Ford F150 is brand new and runs Royal Purple ATF, Gear Oil, and Motor Oil. My local Ford dealership swapped out all the fluids with a "thumbs up" from the techs.

I seen on horsepower tv, they did a test of Royal Purple synthetic against normal oil and the dyno showed an increase of 5hp just from using the synthetic version of it. (not sure if any other synthetics are capable of it or not).

It's all true.

Royal Purple does work.

The service guys & techs want to put my truck on a dyno along with a stock truck to see the actual numbers because of the way it felt when they test drove it after swapping the fluids. Right away, you can feel and hear the difference in shifting and acceleration.

I am getting 26 miles per gallon at highway speeds.

The EPA rating is 19 MPG.

That is a 37% gain in fuel efficiency.

At every $100 fill up, I am saving $37.

In the real world, there are 52 weeks in a year. Let's round that number down from 37 to 25 in order to compensate for mixed use driving. $5,200 - 25% = $1,300 in yearly fuel savings.

My Mountaineer is next for the fluid swap. Transmission, engine, front & rear differentials, and transfer case. I'll keep everyone updated.

Yeah fifty let us know, I may just change to the royal purple then too.

What else are you doing to net the 37% increase in mileage?

Truxedo Tonneau Cover
Airaid Cold Air Intake
40 Series Muffler SI/SO
Mike Troyer Performance 91 Octane Tune

Questionable whether it helps or not:
Royal Purple Purple Ice Radiator Additive
Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant

Other junk on the truck actually adds weight and takes away from efficiency:
Go Rhino! Grille Guard
Go Rhino! Nerf Bars
iDelta Tool Box
Line-X Spray On Bed Liner

Were these mods done prior to adding the RP oil?

Are you saying that the RP alone caused to increase in mileage?

I haven't used RP, but i did use Syntec and notice a smoother idle.

Airaid Cold Air Intake & Flowmaster 40 Series brought me up to 21 mpg.

Royal Purple 5W20 Motor Oil, Max ATF, 75W140 Max-Gear w/ Synslide, & Purple Ice Radiator Additive brought me up to 24.

Mike Troyer Performance 91 Octane Performance Tune brought me up to 26.

Mike Troyer also wrote a 91 Octane Economy Tune & Towing Tune which I have not installed yet. The Economy Tune is suppose to sip gas lightly and maximize my MPG. But the Performance Tune is getting good enough mileage and I really like the way it drives.

I'm considering custom tuning the engine on my Mountaineer. Does anyone have any leads on something like that? I don't really want to buy a tuner with canned tunes. I know that Mike Troyer is great with F150 trucks & Justin Starkey at VMP Tuning does a stellar job with Mustangs. Is there a custom tuner who specializes in these Explorers?

FYI - I just did a brake job on the Mountaineer today. Since it was up, I replaced the OEM Motorcraft shocks with Rancho RS5000 series shocks. Oh what a difference. Of course, at 200,000 miles, anything would have been an improvement over the worn out OEM parts.

just put royal purple in, 10w30, should have done 5w30, last week it was below freezing, 2/3 days starting up the oil gage was on L (low) for about 1 minute before it went up inbetween L and H.

So i guess, don't use 10w30 in cold weather. lol

From what I remember, the book says 5W30. But at my last change, the dealership tech said that Ford now recommends 5W20.

Usually right under the hood it tells ya right there what grade to use too.

where do you get this product? I have Autozone, Advanced and Nappa near me. I'm going syn. as soon as I get more milage on my new engine. Leaning towards Amsoil but that's not written is stone, not as yet anyway. I'm going to replace the tranny fluid soon and might just try it.

What do you know, I forgot all about Penningtons. About 2 miles from house. Will check it out.

Talk about coming back with some info. Thanks

Would like to see a comparison between Amsoil and RP. I picked up a brochure on RP and it sure does have some interesting features. If you can believe the tests shown in that brochure like the Oxidation Test. It does not mention what leading Syn oil, it just says leading Syn. oil. vs. RP. RP goes off the scale at over 1200 Minutes to Failure where the leading Syn. oil lasts to 400 min.

This test I really like. ASTM D-2782 Timken OK Load Test.
Supposedly the RP has something called Synerlec that strengthens the Film strength. This really helps on start up. Which is one of the most crucial factors of how well a lubricant works during this time when oil pump has not had a chance to flow oil to all parts of block. Again the test does not mention Amsoil. Only Leading syn oil.
Leading Syn. goes to just under 20 Pounds of Timken Load while RP goes just under 100.
