I took out the center plug of the drain plug to check level on a 2002 4X4 Exp V8, but almost 3 quarts of oil came pouring out. I'm assuming the tube is missing or broken off. Can anyone tell me how long it should be, so I can make a replacement when I drop the pan to look for pieces?

I'm not talking about a dipstick. The drain plug has a center hole that is normally plugged. To check level, you take out the plug and fill through the hole using a fitting and pump until fluid begins to run out. The amount is determined by a small tube connected to the inside of the main drain plug. That is the tube that I'm talking about. It's probably only an inch or two long.
