What lift would be the best 4'' lift for the money and dependability? I'm really thinking of getting a 4'' Rough Country lift. My next choice would be the skyjacker. The Skyjacker lift is around $400 more. Are there any horror stories about either one of these lifts (ex. broken parts on the trail that shouldn't break?? I'm only wanting a good starter lift.

The Skyjacker is known to have the strongest brackets. Superlift is probably the next best. If you plan on doing any decent offroading I'd personally go with the Skyjacker or Superlift.

NCJASON,

Please start using the search function... there are thosands of threads about lifts already and unless there is a problem that you find there isnt a need to start a new thread. You have 5 threads about which lift is better in the first 4 pages of the offroad suspensions section.

Not trying to be an a$$ just trying to help you learn. The search function will give you thousands of answeres a lot faster than allowing people to read monotonous posts.

Hey man I got the Rough Country kit and haven't had any problems what so ever. I just ran Tellico last weekend with not problems what so ever and I have 3.55 and no lockers.

Ya me too. My Rough Country lift is great. Even after several hard trips to uwharie in NC, and a broken transmition, the Rough Country lift is still looking good. I haven't had any experence with either the skyjacker or superlift lift kits but I am sure they would do fine. It's really up to you and what you want. But I personally recommend Rough Country

Just bought the 4'' Rough Country Lift. I think I'll like it. BTW, nissanboy, I'll start using the search engine. The last time I used the search, however, I just couldn't find what I was looking for. That is why I posted this particular question. Also, Nissanboy, are you from Tenn. or Winston?? Thanks for all the input guys about the lifts. It helped me choose. Thanks again Nissanboy for reminding me about the search engine. It works most of the time. Search engines on computers are great. It helped me w/ research in my college days. Oh yea guys, stay in college as long as you can. I had fun attending UNC-W. Sometimes I wish I would have not been in such a hurry to graduate. Thanks again.

im from Winston but was in school in TN.

i have the rough country 4" lift the only problem i had with it was the front lifted 4" and the back only lifted 3" so it looks a little uneven but you can just buy a set of 1.5" shackle lift for $60 so it would have a nice even look

Nissanboy: What school in Tenn. did you go to? Also, how do you like the front powertrax on your x??

Went to NAshville Auto Diesel College and i love the powertrax.

NISSANBOY: I 've heard many good things about that school. Also, is the powertrax a better buy than the eaton locker or ARB lockers (in your opinion). I'm new to the 4wd aftermarket. My old Dodge would have been a good truck to build. ('91 1/2 ton D44 front, 9 1/25 in the rear) For a stock vehicle, that truck would go great in the trails and esp. in the snow. You could fit 32s w/ out a lift. I sure miss that truck.

Dodges suck offroad...

and a locker is a locker, you just have to research and decide which is best for your driving style. Based on the fact that you ar enew tot offroad community i would say no locker will do you fine for now as you most likely wont find any trails that will require one. Learn the limits of your truck in its factory or slightly modified state then decide what you need to become a more capable rig.

Dont just buy stuff cause it says offroad capable on it.

Skyjacker all the way, worth the extra $$$.
The Skyjacker lift has much softer springs, fits like a glove, and will hold up to anything you throw at it.
Consider getting the radius arms if you really want to improve eveything about the TTB front end.
You have more options then just the bolt on kits as well.
Your post title says, "Best 4" lift"

well the best I believe kit that you can bolt on is Camburgs 4" lift :), and right up there is Autofab

Did you get the spring pack in the rear or block and AAL. If you got the spring pack your X will sit perfectly even or atleast mine does. Good luck with the kit I haven't ahd any problems with mine. Where did you get it?

I got the springpack on my rough country 4'' lift at toms 4wd. they ordered the kit last week.

SkyJacker Always My Number 1 Choice !(dontaskwhy)

Then Super Lift Because Its Going On My Trac !

Sweet jason. How much did they charge if you don't mind. I paid 1100 and change at galloways for install and everything

APPX91: They told me it would be no more than $1100.00 . That is for everything including new camber bushings and alignment. I'm getting the lift for $645.00 w/ shocks. That is tax included. I should probably do the lift myself and save $300-$350.00, but I simply don't have enough time. I have a new baby, a full time job, and I'm putting my 5.0 back together to race again. Also, Nissanboy, the reason why I asked you about difference in lockers is that some fail more often than others ( at least selectable ones). I know that my friends ARB kept on getting air leaks in the hoses. I don't know how tough the eaton elect. lockers are as well as the powertrax. Finally, My old Dodge did fine at Uwharrie. I found out by accident. You see, back in 1998, I spent many days riding my 250R 4 wheeler there. One day, a guy came up to me and my friends and asked if we could tow his buddys jeep out of the trails at uwharrie with the old Dodge. I agreed and it didn't miss a beat. My old dodge was built a lot tougher than my Explorer and went better in severe conditions. It is hard to find a new 1/2 ton truck with a solid front axle and able to mount 33s (w/ aftermarket wheels) on it w/out a lift, and can take a beating. If I can make my Explorer half as tough as the old Dodge, it will be one tough Explorer. I just wish the Explorer had a stock Dana 44 axle from the factory like my Dodge did. Could you imagine how little it would cost to build the Explorer with that as a starting point.

Sweet man.. Sounds like you are ready to go..Good luck and let me know how it goes.
