I don't think so. Would be a cool little parts getter with a 5.0.

As of now, it's parked behind the gate at my San Diego house. I'm busy out in Arizona, daughter is using my Silverado and looking for a full sized truck.

Following in case BKennedy decides to sell.

Pick up a newer Ranger with low miles. It will pull a horse trailer, and get good mileage. Plus plenty of room for everything. Just change the trans fluid offen.

I've been telling her to go drive one. There are nice used Rangers all over the Kingman area with low miles. They are old man trucks out here. Most people have heavily optioned or special edition 3/4 tons or bigger.

Changed the title to a more appropriate one.

I gave her my list of trucks she should look at. All crew cabs, all 1/2 tons, not pulling anything heavier than 6,000 pounds. No specific order:

2019 and up Ranger.
F-150.
1500 Silverado (but the newer 5.3 versions have reoccurring lifter issues).
1500 Ram with the 5.7 (also has lifter issues if idled for extended periods).
Tundra with the 5.7.

I know its a whole 'nother size larger, but I cant say enough good things about the 7.3 gassers in the 250. Not sure if theyre still around but Colorado diesel was good.

I would avoid F150s with the 5.4L 3V engine due to its intolerance of extended oil change intervals.

That seems like a lot for a nearly 10 year old truck, but I really don't know the market.:dunno:

Unfortunately, that's the market

Crazy times. I had hoped that used car prices had come back down after they went through the roof during covid.

Daughter likes this truck

I don't know anything about the ecoboost engines and towing. Specs say it's good for 7,600, which would be fine for her needs.
The 2.7L engine is considered to be tough and reliable. The gen 1 version is in the 2015 models which has single port injection and this can cause the intake valves to carbon up over time. It also uses a two piece graphite-iron block that is very strong and durable. It is basically capable of supporting a diesel engine. It also has good fuel economy numbers. It puts out 325 hp and 375 ft-lbs of torque with a tow rating of 8,500 lbs. One huge benefit for buying a 2015 and up Ford full size truck is the body is all aluminum which means corrosion of these parts is not an issue. Also, the 2015 models are around 700 lbs lighter than the previous steel based models. This makes for better gas mileage and towing capacity.

That is a nice truck!!
I want her old ranger! Too bad it’s so far away lol

2.7 is a underated motor. Good mileage if you keep your foot out of it, and plenty powerful.

But yes trucks are expensive. 😮‍💨

Daughter bought the F150 today. She liked it, bought it. It's got a higher listed tow rating than my Silverado. I do think the Silverado with the 14 bolt swap could tow upwards of 10,000 with no problems, but I will never do that to it.

The plan is to find a replacement engine, do the swap. Her boyfriend of 15 years can then sell his POS BMW and they will have two trucks.

After numerous PM's with 410Fortune, we decided to find a replacement engine. He answered all my questions and gave me a list of models and years that had the 2.3. I didn't have to spend a lot of time looking but did notice vast price differences by model. The Ranger engine is very scarce and over $2,000, the Escape engine is fairly common and $1,200-1,500, and the Fusion engine is less common and $600-800. I located a 2008 Fusion engine with 117,000 miles for $600 in a local wrecking yard and picked it up today. The difference in the engines is the intake, oil pan and timing covers. Since I have to swap them, and this engine is prone to leaking, I ordered a Mahle engine seal kit, and head bolts as recommended by 410. The seal kit is very complete, even has a rear main seal. I also picked up a cherry picker and a second engine stand from HF.

Tomorrow I'll get the replacement on a stand and rearrange vehicles so the Ranger is in the RV storage area. I want to pull the head and oil pan off the replacement to look it over before I start on the Ranger.

To be continued...

Excellent!!!!!!
The ranger 2.3 duratec is called the “ns”
Engine the escape, focus,’fusion version is the “ew” version.
Ranger engine mounted north south under the hood.

They are the same block and heads.

Well done! I have a 2010 4 cyl ranger also needs an engine, so I will be following your lead!
Gotta love the $99 engine stand I think I have 7 of those now… they used to be $65

I got the engine on the stand and started removing parts. I think about everything on the outside is different than the Ranger motor.

I pulled the valve cover, and it's very clean inside. Also removed the intake. I flipped the engine to remove the pan, and realized that the bottom two holes I'm using to bolt the engine to the stand are part of the oil pan. I messed with it for a while trying to maneuver the engine around to capture another bolt hole, but I'm going to have to reposition it entirely.

Clean except for the rat crap between the middle spark plugs, timing chains tight, looking good so far.

Daughter's boyfriend stopped here because a radiator hose flange cracked on his BMW. He borrowed the Silverado to go get the part while I'm taking the old stuff off. Time to quit messing with the Ranger for the day.
Look at this over complicated plastic crap of a radiator hose.

Need to get the Ranger back on the road before that BMW dies.
